as good if not better, my paramo 51 is a work of art, imo better than the record 52 1/2 equivalent,Can I ask you chaps what's the consensus on a Paramo 3? Are they as good as the Record/WODEN?
I find it hard to find any information
Cheers

Have a look at Fisher Norris chain vises, these were a similar design.Hi people with many vices, would the idea in the sketch work? Woodworking leg vice with two screws linked by a toothed timing type belt to prevent or minimise racking to an acceptable level for use , have seen lots of other ideas but fancy a go at this just to be different, I have the screws and nuts albeit left hand thread, soon get used to that , I hope , excuse the mixed units of measurements , I'm old ,
Any constructive criticism welcome,
Cheers

is this a rebadged marples

oh, i was under the impression marples made their own vices, ive posted an identical vice a few months ago known as the marples "eclipse" 3 inch, did they source out this foundry work?V Interesting pair of vices --- the swivel Phoenix 8/0 shares some looks with Chinese vices of the better quality, but also German/Swiss types
The Thos Ellin does look like some Marples, but I think Marples probably always bought in their vices or at least shared design. The Parkinson Handy type was not as well protected by patent etc as their 'Perfect' quick release vices but they did produce a Handy with built in anvil which was covered by Registered Design 94546 and then 'improved' (version like yours) 689821 - early 20th cent - I'd guess this was either after that design ran out, under licence or bought in. A scarce find, whatever (what width jaws?) and I've certainly never seen the brass label with all three trade marks - Ellin, Domino, and the best known, longest surviving, Footprint - a quality Sheffield maker.
firstly, the 689821 No I gave was wrong ( a different Handy) - apologies - they did register a vice like yours, with anvil but a two casting static, about 1900, but the later vices like yours are slightly different and may not be Parky - anyone know for sure?oh, i was under the impression marples made their own vices, ive posted an identical vice a few months ago known as the marples "eclipse" 3 inch, did they source out this foundry work?
i know a couple of the marples and goodell pratt vices are exactly the same, maybe marples imported the goodell pratt and put a sticker on itfirstly, the 689821 No I gave was wrong ( a different Handy) - apologies - they did register a vice like yours, with anvil but a two casting static, about 1900, but the later vices like yours are slightly different and may not be Parky - anyone know for sure?
Marples, like Ward and Payne, were major edge tool makers and had a huge Sheffield catalogue, including own brand vices (mostly small) but, unlike chisels, etc etc, I doubt they made vices in-house -- again, - anyone know for sure??
sorry for any misinfo
Would that be the same Footprint that made/makes pliers, tin snips, probably other hand tools too? But I only remember my snips being made by Footprint.is this a rebadged marples
