Nice Vice !!What can I say. I finally succumbed to temptation and started a thread to compliment the benches and lathes threads, (both linked to below).

What does every other 'show us your bench vice' post have that yours doesn't?
Without a picture it's hard to determine a rough date of manufacture. Check the dropbox from @CwazyWabbit to see which catalogues it appears in and when it stops featuring. That's about as good as you can get.
A 632 is Record's American style vice.

Cheers for the info mate .The reason I haven't got a picture is its in a garden job I'm doing and I've been given the vice just not picked it up yet.What would it be worth as its in working order just a bit rusty? Best regards;Spaceman

NiceFinally, she's all done & dusted, both vice & stand. I'm actually going to use this one too.She had her first use tonight, and in typical fashion, one of the first things that happened was a chunk of cut flesh when I lost concentration and the handle slammed down on my hand.
I also have the same stand took me years to find one!

They're very thin on the ground, aren't they. Does yours happen to have either the original drawer or file rack with it? Would love to see either/both of those, so that I know what I'm attempting to mimic, if I add them.

That's incredibly poor casting, compare it to your Record.

I also have a Fortis and whilst I feel the castings are of lower quality they are still an excellent vice, just as good as my Records

Sorry no some one did post a link to a catalog page showing it new, I remember the file rack but not the draw?
I bought mine from a bloke who got two if them from a printers in Manchester I think they are 1920s from memory?

I agree. I did a double take on the raised lettering because I thought it was corrosion at first.

Quality of cast finish is a bit poor generally on the Fortis vices. Same as Swindens, they seemed more interested in functionality over form. Mine is as rough as a badgers **** too.

It was CwazyWabbit who scanned and posted the catalogues. They are old, and doesn't seem there were many sold, judging by how infrequently they turn up. I guess I'll just have to wing it if I add them.
I have the drawer hangers, so at least I'm halfway on that front.

If they're pre-war there's always the chance a lot got thrown out for scrap for the war, along with railings and everything else which wasn't used in the end.
