I keep having yearnings for a Ktm adventure , must be getting old! Great to see everyone's bikes, although I must admit to being mystified by Harley's! Ridden them a couple of times and unless you're just slogging up and down the m6 I can't say as I think they work on British roads

Great bikes, soak up potholes without noticing them, same with speedbumps. Handy when you are coming too fast round a bend on a single track road to be met with a bin lorry head on and you have to take to the grass too Fast enough for me and really comfy. If you are under 6 foot tall, can be a bit of a high seat. Certainly more capable offroad than Harley

It's a real shame I'm not that keen on there angular design because one thing it has got going is the RC8 is by a clear mile the most comfortable sport bike I've ever sat on. It fits my 6ft 2 frame superbly.

Then I can heartily recommend Sir might also suit an earlier FireBlade.

Here's one I made earlier

Comfortable, fast, torque monster. Like riding a big old Chesterfield. Superb for commuting in heavy traffic.

I'm getting to a stage now, I find the r1 kills my back and wrists only after 20 min of riding

I was going to replace my 01 Mille with an RC8, but after some research found they were flawed machines and not what i wanted to deal with, so i got this instead -
It was the Huskys stablemate for a while, but sold it last year cos i wasnt riding it anymore.

I dont like KTM these days and im against owning one of their bikes. I dont like the company or their bikes.

I had this one when i was 22 and treasured it until a car pulled out and i had a head on crash. G reg slingshot -

Yeah, British roads too straight and traffic infested. Hogs are better on French roads.

Yup agree, my old R1 was horrible on the wrists.

Night and day difference with the older FireBlades though which are MUCH more comfy.

I bought the RC8 to streetfighter it. Bought a very cheap one but it turned out it was a really easy fix back to stock. I swapped it after selling my 990SDR which was also flawed.

Probably the best bike I have ever owned, it was way, way too expensive to enjoy as a hooligan machine and topped out at a disappointing 145. Just didn't have enough power but the power it did have sounded awesome and after a lot of dyno work was perfectly delivered. The slightest nudge on the throttle and it would pounce forwards like Tigger.

Whilst I have no beef with any make or type of powered two wheeler (but still engage in the usual slagging off of each others bikes of course), I do agree with you on KTM, in particular the boss, but although their bikes are not to my taste, I can still appreciate the bikes themselves.

Well I would nt mind the KTM in a box of bits to sort out, cant say I have one favorite, but that "old" fireblade is just superb.As I have nt been on a bike for twenty years probably best something light and managable if I did though.

And practical, when I had my 916 (yes Richard, I know, it was water cooled) I was envious of the space in the back of the 'blades seat. And the 'blades design philosophy always stuck with me, " to have a 900cc motor in a chassis the same weight as a 600cc) or summat like that. I had a CBR 600 as a daily runner/track day bike, and often mused what another 300cc would be like, blade's chassis was superior to the 600 at that time though.

Another vote for an upright riding position from me. I had a couple of Blackbirds, but eventually my wrists began to complain too loudly, so I bought a scruffy old Yamaha XJR1300. Absolutely loved that bike, from the moment I test rode it, it felt like 'mine'. I fitted it and it fitted me.
I ended up throwing down the A2 at about 70mph early last year, so that was the end of that. Since then I've been commuting to London everyday on my old faithful winter hack, a CB500. Absolutely appalling to look at, but the most reliable and capable little bike I've ever owned! 72000 on the clock, and still going like its new!
I went to get some oil and filters for the little CB this morning, and ended up putting down a deposit on something a little more comfy. Due to pick it up in a couple of weeks:

918?? They are ok.
I much preferred the 954 (last proper blade) much more poky too.

I had a fireblade RR6 identical to that for a while. While it was a super bike it was lacking something. It was too good at everything and lost the kwirks that I love in bikes.
I took her to Cadwel once and she was the easiest thing in the world to throw around. Shagged my sliders in one day. Wouldn't have another though.

Sounds like a brilliant bike to me! especially if you dont want to fall off or be for ever playing spanners with it, I have enough of that on my vans !

My issue with the blades, aside from the 90's machines looking so fat and outdated now, is they just work TOO well, to the point of being almost too easy to ride quickly
