Interesting tailstock on that. Does it have a fine and course feed?

Of unusual (and patented) design, the set-over tailstock, though comparatively small, had a spindle fitted with an angled, fine-feed handwheel drive that, once the worm-and-wheel feed was disengaged, could also be activated by a quick-action, capstan-handled control operating through rack-and-pinion gearing.

Hi Maker, the tail stock has both a small hand wheel and a quill feed like a bench drill for rapid advance-retard action, and yes it's a dream to use.Interesting tailstock on that

My wife worked for the Boiler makers Union in Lifton House newcastle, the minature copy of boats made by appretices often ended up in Lifton House, there were dozens and dozens of them, minature to 12 maybe 14 feet long. Skipped them when Liften went over to social srevices. Yes thats right skipped them

Can't believe I have never noticed this thread...
Anyway, this is my Myford 254+. It was scrapped, and I rescued it out of the scrapyard in really excellent condition. Sadly it had no tooling with it when it was scrapped, so have spent twice what I paid for the lathe on chucks, face plates etc for it. This lives in my home machine shop, along with my Thiel 158 Milling machine. The 254 replaced an ML7, which I loved, but was just a bit small. It's nothing like as pretty as the 7 lathes, but it is in a different league for stiffness.
Then there is this Colchester student that lives in my other workshop. This picture was taken when it got moved to this position from storage, but is now mostly up and running.

@Rannsachair I see you have an ultrasonic cleaners there, I bid on a couple on eBay when I was doing up my lawnmower but didn't win one.
Are they as good as I'd hoped would be the case?

It certainly works, got fed up with carb issues and modern petrol on outboard engines - erratic tickover, wont start etc., Have turned a few poor running outboards into first time starters with a good tickover with just a clean in the tank. Previous attempts with airlines and carb cleaner were not great. My partner was happy I was not wasting money as it cleaned up her jewelry too

Very much so. I've a Bransonic. Ace bit of kit. A liitle tip for cleaning small items, is fill tank with water and place items in a plastic bag, suspended in the water. Keeps the main tank clean, and means you can use different types of cleaner without using/wasting loads filling the tank

Had one on my ole Harrison 140 and two on M300, there is movement and not entirely repeatable.
Had Dickson on M300 but didn't like the cost of the tool holders when needing in excess of 20 and still need 16 more.
Could do with quick release lever on top like this on to T slot, undo slide lot out and replace with another tool post no spanners.
Piston type wont handle this 5 1/4" dia x 1/2" face off cut about 15 year ago.

It's a 13" swing circa 1966 that I put a single phase motor on . I posted sone pictures a while ago in this thread.

I've still got the four way post that I took off if the qctp turns out to be no good.
That's a good idea with the handle on top instead of the nut, makes it much easier to turn the tool post too without finding around for a spanner
