Here is a photo of a 6" Atlas lathe I restored. Took it apart, every nut, bolt and gear etc. Two weeks later I painted the individual parts and put it all back together. For a table to mount it on, I welded a 4" channel (as a tool tray) to a 12" channel and boxed it in.

Note: The cracked window behind the lathe was not due to operator error, but by a "flying feral cat". I was chasing the cat out of the garage when it jumped up onto my 14" x 48" Clausing and tripped the on lever. A split second later the cat was hurled across the garage by the chuck and into the window; was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, lol. Needless to say the cat never came back to crap in the garage again. Here's a photo of the Clausing also, sorry about the picture quality.

Can't win em' all, lol. I do have an invention in mind though, and that, hopefully become a future story. Sadly, both the Atlas & Clausing and other machines have found new home's due to our downsizing. My needs have changed and the Boxford along with my Ammco shaper and Tom Senior vert./horiz. mill should do quite nicely for future projects; along with a TIG welder to round out the shop.

Thanks, it was an unwanted mess when I found it, but not unloved. I got a great deal of pleasure bringing it back to life, and it served me well within its limitations. The pot metal gears were a little noisy, but it ran true.

I like cats but I wish I could have got that on camera, could have made a few ($) bucks, or lost a few dealing with protestors at my door, lol.

I like them too which is why I'm glad it was flung out the window with minor injury and shock rather than what could of happened had it got caught in the chuck.

He must of knocked the lathe into reverse to be thrown backwards. Had it been the other way it might not of been so lucky.

Nope, it was running forward, bad timing for the cat, obviously it was not a good hurdler. Fortunately it didn't seem to be too worse for wear as it bounced off the window.
