I use the paste PTFE in a tube, have done for years as you are not supposed to use tape on hydraulic steering systems on boats so always have a tube of the sealant.

Just read your whole thread mate. Your like me - really hard on yourself and its no good me telling you not to be because I know what it's like.
You recovered those welds nicely and didn't stab the torch violently into the workbench.

I will have to get some of that, must be the spanish fittings but everything leaks without some tape on it.

It's gas fittings where tape is used and A lot of people think ptfe tape will seal a gas leak on a bull nose fitting.
It's merely a lack of understanding that the thread isn't the seal in this case.
It's certainly no crime to use it on a water cooler mate.
Ptfe tape is a thread seal so tapered threads where they are designed to be the seal is where it works best.

Ptfe tape and ptfe paste do the same job on tapered threads. For other things the sealing faces need to be in good condition ie no scratches, bull noses of the other type with the flat face like a dart union.
Though i have used loctite 577 in the past to help a leaky bull nose when I had no other options.

Got a bit done.
First the bad bits.
Drilled the hole for the button too big needed a 14mm hole but 16mm would have been ok. Used a 16mm hole saw and the hole ended up 17.5mm so the button not sitting nicely.
Had to change the original plan. The lid was supposed to be sitting on the outside of the side panels but it would not fit well due to the radius.
Would have liked a slightly smaller hole for the pump but i was not going to buy another hole saw just for this.
But i was happy that i managed to line the hole for the pump dead centre that would have really annoyed me.
I need to fill the three holes in the top of the lid i will probably make it worse if i weld it so JB weld or car body filler?
Have no idea how i will cut the holes in the side where the rad is.

I suppose i could do that but i cant cut anything straight or well with a cutting disc the mesh would have to be on the outside to hide the mess

Butcher in the holes using any method, drill, chisel, holesaw, grinder, what ever floars your boat. Then hide it with one of these

Funnily enough I just use Alu ones yesterday on a console I did for a boat, the cut out was fine as it really had to be as you can also see from the inside but if I had screwed it up I suppose I could have put a vent inside as well
When I am doing cut outs with the grinder I often drill 4 holes at the corners or in the case of the one in the console I use a 30mm hole saw at the corners, drew a straight line between the outer edges of these holes and then used the grinder, worked out well and gives a nice looking round to the corners.

Now need to find a home for the arduino, was going to screw it onto the perspex sheet covering the power bits but the cable to the screen is not long enough. Whats the easiest way to secure it here without drilling holes in the side of the case.
