180 amp oilcooled uses a 32 amp supplyA cheap old Oxford oil cooled will eat 12mm plate if you can get a bigger single phase supply so you could get away with a smaller mig.

Why? What are you welding ??OK am understanding it better now. I apologise but I ain't the sharpest when it comes to this kind of thing...I kind of had my heart set on that 355 welder..
I have a 11 tonne lorry that I use for tarmac. Plus tar tankers ect. And some of the stuff I have got to do is 12mm 15mm thick. Tow bars ectWhy? What are you welding ??
Certainly need a new supply.....I will leave the experts to comment on what welder will suit you...good luck.I have a 11 tonne lorry that I use for tarmac. Plus tar tankers ect. And some of the stuff I have got to do is 12mm 15mm thick. Tow bars ect
Thanks. But the more I read the better the Oxford soundsCertainly need a new supply.....I will leave the experts to comment on what welder will suit you...good luck.
Yes I agree. They are big and heavy but are more suitable in the environment I work in.Not sure about the spec but ts simple tech and will still be fixable when many funky inverter based things are in the skip.
Indeed.......I will have a look at thatJust spotted something

hopefully its just a dirty mark but looks like something has in the past pierced the insulation.
Just dont touch it directly at that point, or this whole thread may become pointlessIndeed.......I will have a look at that

My current machine is 200 amp .I was originally going to get a 16 amp supply fitted correctly as I am running of a heavy duty extension lead. Not the best I no but I had to do with what I had at the time. Even with a 16 amp supply fitted I am still limited as to what I can do.....I have my own 11 tonne lorries and tar tankers that I need to do stuff to. Material is 10mm 12mm 15mm ....I haven't had the 16 supply installed yet as I now looking at bigger machine. Wish I hadn't have spotted that ewm 355 mig....so I then looked at rotary converters ect...but I get out of my depth with this sparks stuff.Well depending on supply ,there is also r tech who do a 250amp(ish) who several people on here use on a commercial basis, and really rate them.all depends on your supply really eh, and how deep your pockets are!what machine/power are you currently using?
