Tom next time you see your Dulux man can you please ask him what has replaced the old oil based brilliant white that does not chip or yellow like the newish ( sold in the last 15 yrs or so ) Dulux low odour acrylic white does ?

I use their emulsion too , its a bit more expensive than Dulux trade ,, ok , its about 50% more expensive than other paint , but even at 10% thinning on emulsion two coats covers anything and everything ,, I painted british racing green walls back to magnolia in two coats of emulsion , and black skirting and doors white with two coats of Fleetwood oil based gloss ,,,, the matt black ceiling took one coat of zinser and two of matt white ,,, even allowing for filling the holes where the wardrobes were rawl bolted to the walls the room was done in two days ,,,,, to be fair the tenant had done a first class job with the painting , it was just the color that was questionable ,,,, and that was the kids bedroom .....

On the other hand I've been using Surfex HD for years which is better than the solvent ones I used to use - buy cheap, buy twice!

Try the No nonsense degrease from screw fix, fair bit cheaper and I'm near sure it's identical (not affiliated to anyone)

I am so happy I am not the only one suffering with these 'environmentally friendly' products that just do not work.

I can personally relate to paint stripper, paints and degreaser.

CIF oven cleaner. All the warnings under the sun, mask, gloves, goggles..... but the stuff is so rubbish I'd wager you could gargle with it and get no ill effects.

It simply doesn't do anything. Even left to soak overnight on grease a burned oven tray, it did nothing, nada, wiping with a white kitchen towel never even pulled off coloured resume.

Got to agree with all of this.
Hammerite that doesn’t cover or hammer.
Timber that warps as soon as you cut the strapping.
Plastic deliberately designed to break.
Ineffective paint stripper.
Products sold with no spares available.
Electric cars and no charge points.
Led headlights that just dazzle people. I’ve got the knack of adjusting my mirrors to reflect back to them.
Batteries in everything.
Overcomplicated products that you never use the functions of.
Being put on hold. Your call is important. Well obviosly not, otherwise I’d be talking to a human.
Indian call centres.
Cold callers.
Water based varnishes. You can’t beat the original Ronseal.
On line banking.
Self service checkouts.
I know, I’m old and grumpy.

Try a spray / trigger pack of the amazing " Elbow grease " from the likes of the B&M .
Spray on, leave it 10 min to start breaking the grease down, respray & work it in with a paint brush , leave another 10 min & power wash or if you can use hand hot water inthe powerwasher so much the better , repeat in stubborn really thick gungy areas.
It's a mild caustic sugar soap liquid so be careful not 6to get it neat on you skin or innyour eyes .

It also works well inthe power wash dosing tank when you add a half litre bottle of it to a 2 litre tank and top up with clean water .

We buy caseloads of Elbow Grease in 1ltr sprayers. Good stuff. I still have some of a product called Swipe. Anyone remember that? The shelves in my garage would be an environmentalists worst nightmare. Proper witches brew.

Another one:- case hardening compound that doesn't harden. Kasenit was the proper stuff but I think it had some nasties in it so was banned

On the subject of "it doesn't work", I recently bought / fell for "Revive Power Paste" oven cleaner. The demo looks great, it cleans burnt-on grease off pans really easily, and I have a particularly nasty baking tray and some oven shelves that I'd prefer to be clean if they have my food on them. Bought two tubs, got two free, for a tenner. It doesn't touch the stuff - the only thing doing any work is the scouring pad. "No Acids, No Smells, No Fumes" should also have "No point" on the end.

Porky-pie number one: "This stuff retails at £15 for two tubs, plus postage, I'm doing a special deal four for a tenner". On the website, it's four for a tenner plus a bit of postage.

Porky-pie number two is that it has any effect on burnt-on grease.

I emailed the company that sells / promotes it, hoping that they might tell me that I'm using it wrongly somehow, and they don't even have the courtesy to reply and defend their product. It's easy to be wise after the event, and one online review suggested that the "burnt on grease" in the demonstration is actually made of coffee or gravy browning. I have been looking out for the guy at more recent events in a bid to "raise my concerns" but haven't seen him since.

I feel a bit daft that I've fallen for some kind of wonder product scam and it should have been obvious. I could chuck the stuff out, but when I've done things like that (it's not the first time, and probably won't be the last) I like to keep them around to remind me not to bother next time. It's only a tenner, it's not the end of the world, but it's annoying.

I'll be having a look at that one. There are some in the cupboard that my Dad bought and never used, but most of them seem to involve some complicated procedure.

Avalanche is potassium hydroxide based. No fumes.

Tried some of that on my baking tray as well, and you're quite right. On the other hand, their "mould stain remover" is the only thing that touched the mould growing on my car's roof, so I think I tried it on that basis.

Oh and windolene seems to be a new formula, we use a paint roller to apply it to glass to keep nosey people at bay then clean it later, the last time i tried to do this it seemed to not cover like it did...
