Gave the scales two coats of Danish oil. Wood soaks it up well

It will only take what it wants, take it out wipe it off, let it dry for a week or two, then knock back, or buff it up.

If I remember right danish oil is a cross between oil and varnish so you build it up depending on the level of sheen you want.

Got the stones out and gave it a sharpen. Quite an acute angle, guess less than 20 degrees, probably nearer 15 degrees.





Now for sheath. Leather or Kydex? I think leather

Gave the blade another go on the stones today. Shaving sharp now, hope it retains an edge. I hate having to touch up blades often.

Best I can find out is that originally programmes were only available to view on the iPlayer for 4 weeks, this is now 12 weeks. Looks like the 'sword' programme is/was 'out of time' and so no longer there to catch up with. Shame as it was really informative.

Don't think so, the grandfather in the one I watched looked like he'd been preserved in formaldehyde, pretty grizzled and wrinkly - not that I'm an oil painting and in a position to comment.
