Steel Boat restoration

Well hopefully it doesn't bankrupt me too much

Got some non slip paint down on the front part of the deck so that's all sealed for winter.

Still got the deck over the back cabin to do so made a little start on sorting that too but the wind and dust blowing about put a stop to that today

Then the guy doing my cutlass bearings turned up and fitted the new ones and then needed a hand sliding them back in. They do weigh a fair bit.

I should have the reconditioned props back in the next few days then they and the rudders can go back on next weekend.

Much as you are pressing on….the holes in the bottom are the priority…….

I can't do anything below the Waterline until the hull survey which is on Friday as the repairs could be 6" x 6" or it could be the whole side of the keels.

I've got about a month before they will want her back in the water but they have advised they may move her closer to the electric socket to make my welding easier as it's 80 meters away from the electric at the moment.

wait till the surveys done , that may decide many things , but at least theres no more water running in , thats a good start. The metal work thats in the pics looks mighty fine , but it really is what the Dutch are famed for.

Depending on how secure your yard is, it might pay to laave fititng the prope back on until the day of the final lift.

The yard is fully secure. Much bigger props are available easier than mine too.

Hull Survey is today so I can find out how much steel I need to buy. It's raining so I can't do prep and paint work so I'm in the bulges vacuuming and scraping the rust.

What are them hull fittings for the raw water intakes like condition wise?

Have you drained the raw water side of the heat exchangers ?

The water intakes are all fine, I've not drained the raw side yet.

The hull survey came back better than I had expected. The issue I have to deal with is the back half of the starboard keel, it's not in a great state and I need to replace roughly the bottom 5" or so.

Next weekend I need to finish cleaning and epoxy priming the v of the hull so the boat yard can 're chock her to get the weight off the keel.

It's 4mm flat steel so nice and easy to cut and replace. It's basically the bit circled I yellow so prett6 easy to access. The inside face is a bit harder as the main hull is limiting height.

With the steel on order and being delivered next week I have to get the rest of the hull in Epoxy so it can be chocked differently next week.

So today was the last day I had to get the hull completely wire wheeled so about 5 hours all in to get it finished today.

Not a great idea doing that much wire wheeling as I already suffer from issues due to vibrating tools but I had to get it done but took lots of breaks off the tool.

Tomorrow I will paint everything that's not getting cut out.

Spent today with a roller and 6 litres of 2 Pack epoxy and got all the parts that aren't getting some new steel painted up.

Today was the day to cut open the starboard keel and see how bad it was.

It was full of stinky, slimy gross sludge
