Reversed my fairly immaculate 22 year old Volvo into a low 'invisible' stone wall a week or so a go, ******** the drivers door, gutted.

I parked my Lancia integrale, reasonably immaculate for a 150,000 every say car, alongside a low wall in a car park after letting my mum out of the right hand passenger seat. Tight to the wall so plenty of room on the drivers side, he LH side, for me to get out and to avoid doors hitting it as much as possible from adjacent cars . . .

Came back out to it, having left my mum with a loaded trolley up the top of the car park . . . got in it, swung a hard right . . . straight into that low wall I'd forgotten about . . caved the door in, dented the sill . . . close to 20 yrs ago and it still annoys me . . . still got the car.

A couple of years ago I locked up out workshop and turned round to walk to the car, which was 30 metres away. I saw a huge 16m2 skip which had been placed about a metre behind it, and thought to myself why on earth did they put that there.
Anyway, got in car, started it, and promptly reversed into it !

Had this shovel man & boy, well a least since we moved in 8 years ago and the PO left it behind, anyhow my back hates operating it but after use I leant against the barrow and watched it slowly slide over, RIP shovel
So do I
A, Chuck it in the skip
B, spend the next couple of days lashing something together as a redneck repair

I'd say make a new handle with some tube and flat steel! Will last the rest of a lifetime but might give you blisters!
Or buy another cheap plastic handle and risk the same happening in the future!

I too have spinal issues as well as a bust left shoulder joint ...I've had to learn how to use a long handle shaft without a handle .

Put a longer ash shaft on it , not a HANDLE TYPE . take your time and black candle smoke it to get an amazing accurate fit .

Our local agri-supply . feed merchants ( Wynstays ) has barrels of shafts think my last shaft four years ago was £8.50 .

I've put a proper six foot long pitch fork shaft on my shovel , only filling it to half of what I used to be able to shovel . Gave it to my future son in law a couple of years ..

All my tools now have pitch fork long handles , My spade is a Bulldog ladies border spade and the fork is a modified pitch fork with two extra tines welded in the middle . lerarni g how to use them has been a challenge , till I learnt to hold the top end of the shaft almost under my left arm pit and take three or four spade /forks full instead of one big heavy one .
I've moved 20 ton of 20 to 40 mm washed back limestone and made getting on for 40 tons of concrete in a mixer with it. over the years . & shovelled out 11 dumpy bags of sharp sand

Went down the boat this morning, objective to fit a couple of deck organiser fittings next to the mast. Holes are deep & i have avoided the wiring (Good)
One hole cant be seen, Aaah hell it is right on the edge of the main bulkhead under a trim. Take the trim off, No problem just need to gouge a recess out with the power file, Get the sealey power file out & start, 1 minute in it just stops, Zilch, No go, dead as a dodo. Change fuse check extension lead all working. Still dead.
Thinks, there is a spare B&D powerfile in the shed, go & get it & start sanding, 1 minute in & it goes slow, suddenly it stops & makes a funny noise, then the magic smoke comes out. Two machines dead in ten minutes. Down the ladder with the B&D & swing it by its lead mightily upon the concrete three times until it is smashed to smithereens. Went to the bar & had a pint of ghost ship & felt much better!

I just tried to fix the first one (Sealey) But it is assembled in such a way that it does not come apart easily, so much so that i broke it & cut myself.
It has now had a tap from a sledge hammer so is proper broken now!

Shame about the power files but at least they got what they deserved
