Mower again! half hour into cutting and lost drive to the deck, looks like the end of the tension spring has broken off 
As its merican so getting spares is always a problem so we have a cunning plan, a root through the Vauxhall/Bedford spares and we have a nice clevis, if I pop a hole in the end to poke the spring in I can fire a load of weld into the big hole to catch the end of the spring
WTF it seems to be made of undrillobtanium!! 3 bits later and just a weeny dent
Anyone got any good ideas? shoved it all back in the shed and gone off in a sulk

Took elderly, but reliable and simple old camping car for an Mot today, didn't expect to pass, more just a list of what needed fixing.
Driving to Mot, new grinding noise, lack of power, during the Mot, the gearbox linkage popped off, was reattached, then the clutch died, completely.
Had to call out the local garage to pull it out of the test station.
It's off to the scrapyard shortly.
Bad day, no photos.
Bummer.

Bung some clutch and brake cleaner. It was free up and un gum the rings.

Ahh that will be why weve had not broadband or phone since last Tuesday, I think the cores should be inside the cable , the very nice men from open reach had to bring a cherry picker in so were up and running again but lots of grumpy customers

That looks like someone has driven a high load under the wires and caught up on them . Do you often get high loads such as combined harvesters /sileage stuff trucks loaded with bales etc. passing under the cable / if so you might try asking for the poles to be replaces with high load route poles .

Its where the overhead cable runs through the trees, the trees need a good chop but its a struggle to get any tree guys around here as they are always busy in the allowed cutting period, I could do with throwing bob up there with a chain saw

BT used to do quite a bit of trimming back where branches interfered with multicore over head cables.Its where the overhead cable runs through the trees, the trees need a good chop but its a struggle to get any tree guys around here as they are always busy in the allowed cutting period, I could do with throwing bob up there with a chain saw

Got this for spares the other day.
Was told the switch was dead.
The wires are shot and have signs of overheating.
But the switch seamed to be working.
This did not rotate.
So we broke it even more.
The big end is seized on to the shaft.
There was enough oil in the machine.
The damage.
Oh well. Scrap pile awaits.

I got this Sterling, or hot cold engine, or atmospheric engine.
I knew it was rough.
But yesterday I had it alost working, This morning I had it working, all be it clunky, rough and not smooth.
Then..........
Clunk.
It threw a Brass bearing.
Seized the top piston and twisted the cross head.
Cracked a weld.
Plus bent this.
.
I may revisit in the future.

I needed to swap the CV boots on my "modern" yesterday, so the first thing to do while the car is still on the ground is to undo the hub nut. Long breaker bar, 30mm socket and short extension, feels like it's coming undone, then this.
Annoying, and I've used that extension for quite a few years without any trouble. Still, I think this is the first time this side has been done in 23+ years. Another thing for the shopping list. Swapped to another one which I was a bit worried might go the same way, but it was OK.

In the mancupboard around this lunch time washing machine doing its job , me playing at stripping out the lathe half nuts ....... clatter clatter clunkety clunk .......one dead 7kg loaded washer. Oh £^$%*&)" !.
Stopped the lathe job , cleaned up my greasy hands & took off the overalls , opened the washer .... took the sopping wet clothes out . Drum flopped up and down like a scarecrows arm in a gale .
Modified my motorbike lifter platform so it became level with the shelf the washer sat on and slowly eased it off the shelf halfway on to the hydraulic platform , undid the hose & power cable then fully pulled it out to get at the back
Found the main bearing on the drum had collapsed , as a temporary get by I used the smaller washer that we are storing for our daughter .
Had a few minutes pondering ...... Do I try and get a new bearing for a fifteen year old machine that cost slightly more 15 yrs ago & it will have a lot of brittle plastic on it & have to wait for a few days/ weeks for the the company , posties /carriers to get it to me
or do I go to AO website and get a brand new 12 kg load washer delivered tomorrow which the guys will fit remove and take to dead one away all for £450
It's a no brainer really we decided on a new machine 24 hr low cost electricity selectable , with a three year warrantee from AO.com . It's being delivered and fitted up / connected up tomorrow morning with the old machine being taken away by AO .com
Went back to the half nuts , removed cleaned and put them back in upside down as only the top thread clamp was seriously worn . Will get together with Fizzy and see if we can make a pair of new half nuts as per a diagram I have for them as I still want to make his 1/2" Whitworth pinch bolt for his pillar drill table locking clamp .
