I'm not an authority on putty knives, but the construction of that suggests its very old and a really good piece of kit. Well done for supporting the girl's efforts

Today ( well yesterday) I sorted the brakes on no 2 daughter's car. (16 year old Punto) It also failed for all four tyres cracking close to the rims on the inside.
See has had it since uni but it doesn't get driven much now as she is working in London, which might help explain why it failed it's mot for the front brakes binding. (And the tyres cracking)
Her boyfriend put it in for the test without even checking the lights so I'm not supprised it failed.
Had a look at the calipers.
The pistons were free enough but the slider pins were anything but.
There were a wee bit rusty so I thought I'd give them a freshen up while I was at it.
Pistons blew out with compresses air.
Seized pins took a lot more pursuaiton and I had to get the heat out.
Also needed heat to free the blead nipples.
Blasted the calipers and carriers.
Then two coats of epoxy primer and 2k top coat.
Cured the paint in an oven I have in the garage, because I was in a rush.
Couple of hours after painting, I rebuilt with new seals.
I thought I had new pistons but they were the wrong size, so it had to reuse the old ones. They were in remarkable condition considering, so will do fine.
Stuck the seals in with 5 min Arladite.
I had a guage that was a nice fit, so used that to keep them in place untill the glue went off. Didn't take much pressure so the guage didn't suffer.
All back together with new discs and ferodo pads.
It's up for a retest in the morning and daughter is also back for a week today, so she should be able to get about.
If I valued my time it would be cheaper to get new calipers, (and she could buy them) but where the fun in that.

Exhaust leak at the right manifold.......again
Well it's gradually been getting worse since the end of last summer and I finally got a bit of free time today to investigate.
The right downpipe never seemed to fit very well into the manifold, so after my engine rebuild I put some extra high temperature silicone on the sealing ring to try to improve the situation. However before long it started to leak again.
I got my lift back out of hibernation and got be the car up in the air.
My plan this time was to remove the manifold from above and pack out the joint with fiberglass tape to try to improve the seal. However this is what I found.
One nut loose and the other one missing, so I decided just to replace the nuts and bolts, tighten the coupling back up and test before removing the manifold.
This is easily done with someone wrenching from the top, and one from below, but I was on my own so used this bent spanner to get to the top of the bolt.
Job done.
The test drive was great, no more puffing from the manifold. So a slightly easier job then anticipated.
Since the car was up on the ramp, I decided to a bit of a belated and overdue spring clean.
I'll try to force myself to do a deeper clean next spring.

The VW T4 headlights were flapping about so i ordered new adjuster bits and fixed them after a good clean up and found time to skin round the roof opening in my man cave with OSB.

Lovely car. That lift looks the business. Which model is it? I presume you need a perfectly flat surface to use them safely.

It's the BH repairs mid rise lift, I like it as it only has one crossbar in the middle, some other models have two.
It does need a smoothish floor. My last garage was fairly rough concrete so I put down some cement to smooth it out.

My Fiat Ducato failed the MOT due to a seized torsion axle. Been standing for a while. Today been using a rotary hammer on the axle and bashed it with a sledge hammer. Is free now on one side of the car. This may not be a fix but my hopes are raised slightly.
A repelacement axle will cost around 10000 pounds. A company in Scotland can apparently refurbish these axles considerably cheaper. There are absolutely no second hand axles available at the breaker yards.

Ride on fixed, managed to smash a cutting deck spindle through my own stupidity, I always like to shop local if I can but local wanted £137.00 for one!! Its an American machine so ebay to the rescue, got 2 spindles for £98.00 delivered inc taxes etc, cant complain really as the mower was a freebie 3 years ago!

Fixed the forklift , my avatar , it had become increasingly slow to fire and for a 135 thats unusual, so ordered new tank tap, filters , took tank of , removed tap to find usual bodge ..the micro filter inside tank removed and a bit off copper pipe put in to give it some height so as not suck detris up from bottom. fitted two new filters , they were past there best . refitted just couldnt stop the banjo on fuel tap leaking , apart again found tap wasnt faced flat, so fitted another, still weeping , after several attempts got some penny sized copper washers and reamed bore within couple thou clearance of banjo, back together and thankfully now no leak .
so my favorite vehicle is back in service ,next job is oil and filter ready again for the next few years service..possibly one of my best ever buys

Finished the clutch swap on my Jeep ZJ, also did the o rings and seals on the back of the engine while I had it apart
Massive improvement with the new clutch, my left hip and calf appreciates it
But I still have an oil leak, slightly worse than before I changed the seals

A few weeks ago I aquired this old lighter.
I did get it to work, but it needed a bit of small works.
With help from a good member here I was able to rebuild it.
New flint, a suitable spring and a new wick.
