I can't see mains operated ladies catching on, they'd be much better if they were battery powered.
It's not surprising the cables keep getting cut, if you need to plug her in.

I've done that once, I just reattached the cable and gave it back like nothing ever happened.

If battery driven it's best to use Durc**l as they keep going longer.

It's been a few days of cleaning, wiring, fitting and refitting, and filling up with fresh oil.
But today the table of the jones and shipman 540 reciprocated for the first time in years.
There's a long way to go yet.
Suffering from some belt slip (i hope and not a tight plain bearing in the wheelhead).
Have attached photos of what the mill looked like the day i picked it up and the state of the ancient rubber wiring and arcing contractors

What's the purpose of the dwell? Does it just give you a bit more time to adjust the crossfeed/downfeed?

I sometimes have flashbacks about the ruts in the rain in the Brechfa Forest and being passed by a works rider ,feet up sitting back , seemingly flat in 4th while I dragged both feet. Seems like yesterday not 50 years ago.Today, I bled the brakes on my MTB, vi's the front started coming back to the bars halfway round a very wet and slippy splosh around bits of Brechfa Forest.
Brakes come in handy

It just give more time for the automatic crossfeed to step.
No auto downfeed on my 540.

Got a bit more done on my wrecked shaper bits.
Warning, major bodgery ahead so machinists or people of a sensitive disposition please look away now.
Used a scraper to get the mating faces to fit better to or a try least get the heights off.
The bigger block seems to be pretty flat the smaller one, not so much.
Then went about trying to drill out the excess braze from the bolt holes.
Used the big cross slide I got from @Munkul
Bolted it to my drill table and clamped the bracket to it.
Used a 15mm rotabroach bit to rough out the counter bore.
I don't have a 15mm counter bore bit, so I flattened the end of a drill bit to square out the bottom of the counter bore.
Then turned a 15mm sleeve with a 10mm hole to centre the clearance hole for the 3/8 bolt.
Seemed to work ok. I finished drilling the 10mm hole in the vice.
Surprisingly it bolts together well, given there is very little play in the bolt centres, however all isn't t ok at the broken end so more work needed.
I ain't going to scrape that out (I can get a 0.3 feeler gauge in there) so proper machining will be required.
If could possible use something to fill the gap (more braze?) but I think it would be better to try and get the faces properly flat

The VCDS was littered with faults so went for the cheapest first...........it put up a fight though. Had to drill it then pull it out with some M8 stud bar
All good now.................Oooh the relief ! Modern cars and their gizmos suck !

There are lots of Repair Cafes about @Matchless is in the process of setting one up. They are designed to help people to extend the life of appliances. Usually in church halls or community centres We do two in our area, one in Lichfield. one in Burntwood. repairs range from the cable I posted, vacuum cleaners with cracked cables, (Henrys are buggers for that) To simple things like a vacuum being full and needed emptying and the pipes cleaning well! It's given me a lot of confidence and I've made new friends so win win for me,
Depends how badly she is broken, We can't fix the impossible! (but we will have a good go!
Our major problem is that people think we are TV's The Repair Shop. We are not. there is too much at stake to risk a sentimental repair so we tend to advise professional repairers in that case.

Bodywork is showing it's age, suspension very loose and making a few annoying noises, I really need to get underneath and see what's what. Really difficult to get going in the mornings and was running very lumpy. A constant whine too.
