Fixed this for a neighbour.

Two mullered screws in a headphone amplifier. The buggers were small, 4-48 ANF and 6-32 ANC, AND PUT IN WITH PLENTY OF loctite.
There was enough head left to cut a slot in each and then tease them out with my trusty old impact driver.

Rescued today.

Didn't work, but I was only interested in the switch.

Nowt standing out as wrong. The motor tested ok. But m ains lead didn't.

Oh bother.


As it was under 6"/150mm from the plug I cut it out and fitted a new plug.

JCB 3CX hydraclamp bolt & nut. 38 mm o/d by 2 mm pitch. Stuck fast and anti rotation lugs chewed off.

Thought I'd teach it a lesson and saw it off. Mighty tough stuff. About and hour and a half and three carbide sawblades later I won !

I now have Triggers trolley, renewed 55% of the metal work with 6x 25 mm flat bar and the mig setting on my multi welder .
But it is the original 12 yr old trolley , this time next year I might have to sort out the metal moths eating the remaining Chinesium iron

The other week my Al-Ko garden shredder went bang, the nylon wheel burst the alloy casting, so rather than scrap it I decided to try a repair. It hadn't been cutting as well due to wear on the nylon wheel so I wanted to add adjustment so the nylon wheel could be moved closer to the cutter as it wears. Made up some 25mm alloy plates with slots to allow adjustment, cut out the broken sections and "welded" in the new parts. It was a bit of a nightmare welding the 25mm alloy parts to the 3mm or so castings, but they seem to be holding!

New bits in position and very dodgy welding.

I know what a broken neck is like. So why not.

Calling Dr TYA.

Cleaned the joint, added 3 pins. He now has 1 more than me.

Used 2 pack stone glue, the surplus will be removed when cured.

Into issolation.

The scales the Ladies at the care home Shed use to make jams etc.

They have a built in safety device, if over loaded or it james it pops a shear pin inside.
They have spares inside, that was nice to find out.

It was complete, even had a abestos ore warmer.

This would explain the lack of presure.

The workig parts were in the body, I rebuilt the safety valve as well.

Jockey wheel had taken a knock previously when off-road which bent the clamp but then the "welded" nut that the tightening lever goes into fell off. So extracted it from the bush it was growing in, cleaned it up and bit and slapped lots of weld around it. Now I've got the jockey wheel back on, albeit still wonky but can't win at everything.

Also fixed the cross-slide on my Myford. Still not 100% right but will need some new bits but at least it's usable again after being attacked lightly with a grinder...

On my old trailer I welded the jockey wheel bracket on a reinforced plate so when it was raised the wheel was a few mm clear of the bottom of the drawbar .


I hit a sleeping policeman at 15 mph in the peak district back in 1987 towing our ancient Avondale Mayfly & going up hill .

The solid rubber jockey wheel hit the ridge of the mound and as a result almost tore the back end off the Citroen BX 19 GT Turbo diesel , you could see daylight to the road surface floor in several places when looking from in the boot .

Bit of truck maintenance today , new brake chamber, pads, sort out the sliders and a fit a repaired tyre.

Pretty nifty sidewall repair, virtually invisible

Neighbours tele-handler.

He was popping over with his old but trusty Matbro to help me lift out the engine of the JCB except I got a phone call, "um... I'm at the bottom of your drive, blown an oil gasket and lost all drive". Instant gasket eventually found and still some left in it - neat bead around the manifold and it fixed it well enough for him to actually do what he came to do and he made it back home as well. He'll replace it with a proper gasket next week when he can order one in.

A couple of weeks ago the Mrs mentioned that the horn had stopped working on her car and could I have a look. Fast forward to this morning and its not raining for a change so I thought I'd earn a few brownie points by getting straight on to it (alright, I'll admit she'd nagged me into submission)

Peering through the grill I could see the wires rotted through at the plug, but getting to it was going to need the bumper off. Not a problem, I'll just move it round to the garage where the tools are and crack on.

But wait, why forsooth does it sound like a bunch of monkeys having a tool fight under the bonnet, and is that the sound of imminent engine failure I hear?

Pop the bonnet and have a quick look and what have we here? Ah that'll be the Aux belt tensioner falling to bits and the belt running half off the edge of the pulley then!

Anyway, new belt, tensioner and guide pulley, which obviously having been designed by a mad French man entailed removing the wheel, arch liner and half the engine and it's sweet as a nut again (and I've fixed the horn, which also required the bumper removing, which you cant remove without taking the headlights out and removing a million bits of plastic).

I asked her how long it had sounded like a tool box falling down a lift shaft for and she said "Oh a couple of weeks, it's been getting worse though". Thank god the horn stopped working when it did, because I'm guessing she'd never have felt the need to mention the sounds of impending doom coming from under the bonnet.

The company we use know their stuff, on the truck tyres the sidewall repairs are virtually invisible. The nature of our work means taking the trucks off road , tyres are always getting sliced.
The Ag/forestry tyre repairs are equally impressive, telehandler tyre I picked up today had a tear in the side wall you could have put your fist through, although not an invisible repair the integrity of the tyre has been restored, some of these tyres are the wrong side of £350 so a £30 repair is a no brainer.

Jeep is in for MOT tomorrow, there were a few little jobs to do, biggest PITA was going to be 1 of the rear fog lights

Fitted a tow bar a few weeks ago so already knew the bulb holder and plug were rotten, turns out it's a common issue as they are in the bumper and get covered in crap

New ones are available but not the plugs, breakers were no use so time to improvise

Cut the old one off and it turns out it's a standard Econoseal plug and had a new one in my box of bits



Wires cleaned, terminals crimped, squirt of ACF50 and its sorted
