Yes, I did the front subframe about 6 months ago (I posted about it on here) I have hardly driven it since because of work.

When I went to move it, the handbrake was stuck solid and I had to cut one of the cables to get it released.
I've got two cables to be fitted and as you say, you need to remove the front seats to fit them.

The hands free was carp with the "Blue and me" system so I've also started fitting a radio with apple and android play DAB and a reversing camera (why not) and that means taking even more of the interior out.

I've ordered a full set of Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks, (B6s) I'll see what she feels like with them and hope they are not too hard.
I've also done a bit of work on the engine, the front suspension and front arches / inner guards.

Given the work I've done so far this thing is probably worth a project thread if only to put everything in one place, but I'm not sure there would be much interest.

I really should have held out and got a petrol but I needed something in a rush after getting rid of the company car so just bought what was available at the time.

I fitted new Bilsteins too - with hindsight, no idea why, as I don't do the miles in it now, as it's a winter hack. But they are perfectly okay in normal use, although I have made some 20 wide collars to sit under the spring mounts to lift it back to standard height - I cracked the V6 front downpipe on my usual commute at my usual speed . . . but I've done two years without working up the enthusiasm to do so.

I wanted a diesel estate Q4 - they are like rocking donkey vomit - so I ended up with a V6 petrol saloon . . . other than the crazy high road tax, its okay. I do like the estate looks though From most angles, the 159 is a fine looking car.

Can you not do a low level connection between the two? Or is that too simple for the situation?

Sorry, I didn't mention that they on two separate greenhouses - one lean-to on the back of the house, the other standalone at the bottom of the garden. It's not a massive garden and neither are massive greenhouses, but there's about 15' of lawn and a path in the way. I did pick up a kit to join two together, because I want to add one to the other side of the standalone greenhouse, but I can't use it to join these two.

Paid £3 for a rusty set of drawers. The pedestal was completely shot, and duly discarded. The drawers were cleaned up and resprayed with a rattle can. Not perfect but good enough for workshop use.

Bargain - the Drew Prichard effect has seen most of this kind of thing getting very expensive.

The pricing was fair. I should have taken a before photo. It looked rough and the plinth was completely rusted away. But you are right, there are lots of people who polish these things up and try to sell for crazy prices. I'm just going to chuck tools in it.

I've had a clunk from the front of my Jeep GC, finally tracked it down to the bolts on the bottom arms

I'm assuming a previous owner had them replaced and they weren't tightened up properly





You can't see the bolt heads without taking the sump bash plate off, and no, the holes haven't worn oval, it's how the camber angle is adjusted

Today I fixed some more rust.

I bought an Alfa 159 SW a year ago and it's mot time.
I've been doing bits piece meal, and decided to sort the rear suspension.
Took the wheels off and found a broken spring.
Also very rusty suspension arms and frame.

Took everything out to have a better look.

Mostly not completely horrible for a 15 year old car, but certainly needs attention.

The suspension was much worse and is possibly too far gone but we will see.

Decided to sort the wheel arches and underside first.
Pressure washed the worst of the crud off but left the diesel tank in place.

Quick grit blast to remove the worst of the rust and a sweep blast over anything that still has paint
The paint is very thin in places but where there is underseal it seems to have held up pretty well.
Where the paint is failing it comes off easily so certainly worth doing.

Then a coat of Jotamastic 90 applied with a brush and some seam sealer applied to the bits the factory missed.

Not perfect, but this is as far as I intend to go with a daily driver shed.

However, I might keep this for a while so it should be a good test bed for the products and methods I use.

I'll let this cure and will apply another coat of 90 tinted a darker colour so I don't miss bits.

It's an awful lot of work for an 1.9 oil burner.

Cheap blastpot with a few mods.

grit valves for cheap pots

using ball valves to meter the grit is a bit hit and miss and prone to regular blockages :(namely because of its design and iregular grit size it only takes one larger particle to end up in the orifice and everything stops . even the slightest of moisture kills it off . making a flat sand valve...

Air supply is just a 3hp piston compressor which isn't anywhere near enough but will work if I give it enough time.
I've another 3hp compressor that is giving bother, but even with both working there isn't enough air to keep it going at 90psi but it is a lot better.

The media valve has transformed the blast pot from a total pain with blockages and hopeless grit adjustment to a very reliable tool.

I've had a small coolant leak (so far no need to top up) at the front of the engine. The coolant has been getting splattered all over and creating a real mess. I wasn't able to track the leak down as it has always been dry by the time I park up and look. I tried nipping up the hose clips but no success, so bought this cheap pressure tester.

Of course, none of the caps fitted properly so over to the lathe to take off a mm from this cap.

Once fitted and pressurised....

....the leak appeared on the top hose.

Tightened up a bit more and the leak stopped, I'll do a clean up and test drive later

i bought one of those kits for testing marine charge coolers, great value for money!
i will need to remember this trick for tracking down leaks, its a good one!

Fixed an oil leak on the transfer box on my ssangyong korando. Korean vehicle German engine American gearbox and transfer box. A strange mix but it seems to work.

Not today but yesterday evening I fixed the rear wash/wipe on the range rover .

stupidist design in the world that silly plastic inlet elbow feeds the water through the center of the wiper spindle and it leaks
luckily I'd been donated a non leaking motor quite a while back but the teeth were gone on the cog , so a bit of mixing and matching went on

I also needed to swap the spindle out of the leaking motor as the plastic nipple that feeds the water into the arm cover / water jets had been snapped of ( see pic below ) probably by some plum changing the wiper arm .

you can see the rear spindle is missing a bit !


all back in and working correctly although I've left the cover of for now just be sure it's not leaking and there will be a modification at a later ( a small brass elbow threaded into the spindle ) to make sure it never leaks .

Exactly the same "Born to Leak" rear wiper motors are used on many VAG vehicles,
so there must be a "Designed by Accountants" industry standard somewhere.

This came my way, I knew it had a few issues.

Cleaning the old crud out, showed a few things to address.


It leaked and the spout was blocked.

I had to unsolder the top and spout..


It now is used as a cutting oil oil can

I got this tired Tilley Wall lamp, from a member on here.

It needed a lot of attention.

This was a pain. The seals had gone sticky, the different metals had fused together.

Even through this could be removed it could not be striped, with out some bad words.

It started to come together when the brass cleaned up.

The spares duly arrived.

This can be a pain to dismantle. But this one was sweet, new mantle is to be fitted.
Again OE mantles will be used.

Assembled.

New control valve fitted, the knob is missing, as I need a new one.

Now producing light, not clear here. But I was not going to fire it up in the workshop.

90% working.
New control knob.
Pump needs some attention, I did get it into bits. But I fear the pitting is to bad.
