Yes I would do the jet block o rings. I believe the full Keyster Kits has these included.

Be very meticulous with the jets, I can half remember a blocked jet or bushing under another jet in the jet block so be very thorough when cleaning.

Make sure the air correction jets in the carb inlet are clean as well.

Ultrasonic cleaner is a good start but you need to manually clean everything afterwards.

Personally now I replace the jets if they have been in a sorry state, should come with a full kit.

Had a go at the compressor that destroyed its non return valve last week....
Managed to get the bust out stub of thread out easily
Thread seems to be 20mm by 1.5 which is lucky as I had a cable gland I could modify
End is tapped 3/8 bsp.. just need a brass plug now that I can shorten and then sweat in with a bit of solder as it only has about 4 complete threads... will need a bit of locTite custard on the threads as my fitting has not got enough metal for an o ring

I've got the jet cleaners but I only use those for sizing really.

If I do clean a pilot jet it would be a fine strand of copper wire after a soak in carb cleaner.

The jets are soft metal, brass or similar so you don't want to be poking steel needles through them or you may accidentally reem them out.

Some decent brass brushes as well for the emulsion tubes etc.

Cotton Buds and Autosol for polishing fuel needle seats if they are none replaceable.

Very common on minis with 1.5 inch su carbs with spring loaded needle - to compensate for a rich idle you screw the jet up, but then it won't run high up. Only answer is a new jet.

Mrs DanZac's Subaru Brat has been temperamental to start for a while and getting worse. 2 times out of 3 you got the clunk as the starter solenoid engaged and nothing else. Anyway cutting a boring story short, I finally got round to having a look at it for her today.

Whipping the top off the starter solenoid the problem was pretty obvious. 30 years of starts has eroded the motor contacts, meaning that most of the time the solenoid wasn't pulling down far enough to contact both terminals. (The one on the right is almost fully eroded whilst the left ones still almost full thickness)

Easy fix with a bit of china's finest bus bar bent over in the vice and hacked to shape with a blunt file and even blunter drill.

Fixed and ready to go back in the car tomorrow and hopefully a few brownie points in the bank for me.

I went to Whitby on Saturday to see my mum, she lives on my brother's farm. I fixed her bog seat, then my SiL got me to fix a sink plug in one of their holiday lets.

Then my mum mentioned that her spin dryer was broken. She had put an unbalanced load in it, banging and screeching ensued, and once it had stopped, the basket had a permanent leak to one side. I didn't have any tools with me, and my brother's tools are like the ones you get in Christmas crackers. So I took it home.

I took a look last night, this is it, German made Servis.

As you can see, the drum has a bit of a lean.

Caused by one of the three rubber motor mounts becoming detached.

I couldn't find any spares for Servis spin dryers, only their tumble dryers, so I roughed up the metal base and the rubber with some 120 grit emery paper and bonded it with epoxy.

I tried it tonight and it works a charm. Not sure if it will survive slightly out of balance loads yet, that's the next test. New ones are around £160 and there's loads on FB for about 40 quid so not the end of the world if it doesn't survive the test.

But as that isn't too much of a concern for me I decided to get a "round-tuwit" and fix the bent input shaft on my lathe that stops me using the 500rpm speed (been putting it off for a while, it came to me with the ding).


Turns out if you want to get the input shaft out , all the shafts come out. Ow lord , what have I started.

Ahhhh tiss back together now and smooth as can be. also all the belt guards are on so it's supper elf and safety now toooooo

Another day, another bike to re-wire.

At least it's not another set of carbs I suppose!.

Had to use my modified oil filter cup on a Harley yesterday (made it for a particularly stubborn BMW a while back)

No access and very tight filter so 4 self tappers to the rescue!.

Following on from this thread - Fiesta ST Diff Bearings
Due go this situation.

Not the best picture, but there's a lot of sparkly bits in the bottom of that oil.

I've fitted this to Mrs DanZac's Fiesta ST. Which now unfortunately means that I can now hear her wittering on over the gearbox noise again, and now no longer have an excuse for ignoring her.

Over the last few weeks it had gradually got more and more noisy, until she finally decided to tell me that it was knackered (and that normally means it's pretty well fubared).

My initial plan was to strip it down and fit new bearings, but as it was £250 for a bearing set, or £350 for a second hand, low mileage, gearbox, that seemed like a far quicker and easier option.

Not a bad job to do to be honest, considering that it was done on the floor outside. It was a bit of a struggle getting the replacement in, but nothing a bit of swearing didn't sort.

When I get time I'll strip the old gearbox and see if it's worth rebuilding as a spare, but for now, the little Fiesta lives to fight another day.

You've done the right thing there, got the car back on the road and can have a look at the old one at your leisure.

Saying that I've had a gearbox in bits from 2018 and haven't got round to rebuilding it yet!.

More mods than you can shake a stick at and 550bhp but laid up for a long while.

Will be nice to see this back on the road eventually!

It's a sorry state outside but my daughter has asked if we can give it a good clean.

Got a Kevlar timing belt to fit bu that may be just the tip of the iceberg..
