Very satisfying afternoon. Cobbled together a Henry with a cold box and a couple of odd lengths of plastic pipe. then spent a couple of hours watching the wasps be exterminated. Hopefully a couple of days and I might have got rid of them till next year.

Chopped up the second sheet of 1.5mm stainless, leftovers in the pic below.

Welded up 2 of the chutes for the stripper boxes, too many interruptions today with emergency jobs so never got the third one done.

Also chopped up 6m of 50mm dia 316 tube, hopefully I will get a chance to finish the 3rd chute and weld the tube together and weld to the stripper boxes.

I just killed off a massive nest above my son's bedroom window and that took a whole bottle of that wasp killer power. I only got stung once...

Made some sparks while milling down the sides of this linkage for clearance.

" Raid wasp killer " a full can squirted inside that length of tube by sealing the edges to the can with a cut soft vegs like a potato or a marrow so they get the whole can in the nest is the best way , just sucking out the hatched flying wasps will still leave a a few hundred or more to hatch out and carry on till winter .

Being able to make up the Henry in a plastic dust bin with the inlet air being sucked in throughthe bin wall via a sealed pipe so the outlet air can now be blown along another exit pipe is good , quickly tape an L shaped bit of metal to the side of the can so it is tight down over the spray button to keep it on , drop it in & close the lid quickly then start the Henry it will blow the Raid into the nest and soak the walls with microscopic droplets of it . Check it 24 hrs later ..you may have a massive over wintered nest in the roof void .

Do be careful don't work off a ladder unless very well protected over head , hands, arms and trouser legs ... .wasps fly as long as the temp is 46 oF or more , even at night if there is enough moonlight or street lighting , they also like to crawl upwards so tape off trousers into wellies , marigolds or thicker into cuffs and wear a brimmed hat with a fine mesh dark netting over it well tucked into thick clothing ( I found all that out the hard way )

Thanks for tips and tricks much appreciated. I'm only using the steps to rest the tubing . The nest is in the void above the soffit board and really don't want to remove soffit except as a last resort. I'll have a few more goes and then try to fumigate the void with yet another codge up.

I chopped a foot off the bottom of my English wheel and started rebuilding it so I can bolt casters on but I ran out of gas on the last tac so that’s it for today.

Anyhow. Back on topic. Is that Skeg a bolt on? Never seen one like that. Usually weld on but I’ve never had anything to do with river boats

Today I milled the remaining piece of the web from an rsj that I'd plasma cut

off a while ago for another job, to give me a piece of 10mm thick plate. I then drilled some holes and milled some slots. This is to go under my lathe feet to form a motor mount for my 3 phase vfd conversion.

It's 1.2m of U section, with a plate holding the lower pivot, which I reclaimed from the old one and welded on.

M12 A2 stainless bar, washers and nuts, and a couple of tubes of PU gloop.

The holes were well squiffy, on the original, I just copied squiffy holes.

Most I have seen are bolt on because most boats I deal with are wooden or GRP.

93 packs of smoked bacon 5 mm thick all sliced and vacuum packed. I went for a leaner breed this year and it seems to have paid off.

I hate cleaning bacon slicers - why oh why don't they smooth the contours instead of making them with nooks and crannies everywhere. Oh for a water proof one that could be pressure washed !
