Wouldn't proper industrial grade broom sticks have been cheaper???I went through my stock of round bar and considered 30mm stainless, that would do for hitting things. I also briefly considered Tufnol but ultimately there's better uses for such posh material.
Pine isn't ideal but it's cheap. I've wanted a really long one a few times, and also thought a short one could be handy, this way I can play with them for a few months, see what work and and make some from a more expensive hardwood if I feel the need.

Oiling the wood ....oiled with olive oil after scrubbing off before natural air drying after use ?
