This has been on my list for years: the bolts that hold the top slide on the M250 were a bit past it when I got it and it's really only been held in place with one screw for the last five years. Today I finally got round to making some replacements out of silver steel. Looking at that photo, it looks like the top right one has been welded or something, but that's probably just a bit of swarf that fell on it: they were turned from 20 mm round silver steel bar.
Those are pretty good looking threads and finish for silver steel. It can produce a torn look when machined in it's unhardened state.
I haven't decided yet to be honest. The stock ones are quite hard (although a file bites into them fairly easily). I don't know whether they need to be hard really. What would you do?Are you going to harden and temper them?
did you machine from solid? Not today but made this so I can fill the cases that have .172" necks took a bit of time but saves a lot of grief. and bad language!

Early Mk2 1300 Ford Cortina, if my memory serves me right. The gearbox went into a Dutton kit car, a whole world of aggravation, given the engine mounts weren't anywhere near opposite one another. Came from a scrapyard in West Kingsdown, near Brands Hatch. They had a dog with marginally less charity than the Tory party. This one has 4 down speeds and reverse
I was going to replace it as part of the spruce up with something shiny but it just makes me smile

Good to know the provenance and adventure! The Cortina knob will certainly stay.Early Mk2 1300 Ford Cortina, if my memory serves me right. Nice drill! I have drill envy now.Good to know the provenance and adventure! The Cortina knob will certainly stay.
It does very good work, although I've not got round to bolting it to the floor yet, as my mate at Jodrell Bank does not think the earth will spin off its axis anytime soon.
