A slot drill very seldom cuts to size. If it’s new and sharp it invariably pulls slightly to the one side if you have the slightest amount of play or instability in your set up.@Pete. suggested something like that to me. He reckoned a 3mm diameter cutter might cut the 3mm wide slot oversize.
I still can't see how mind...

So the slot drill would cut to size if your setup was better and your machine correctly adjusted. Or have I misunderstood?

I've been doing the same with my Dad's collection of random old fasteners. He had all sorts of tubs, boxes and tins with all sorts of nails, screws and the like, but absolutely no pattern to what was in each one. I enjoy sorting stuff out, though, and I'm not in a rush. Lots of "oh, that's where that went to" moments.

pretty much no matter what you do there'll be the tiniest bit of chatter/movement/whatever
the better your setup the less there will be.... but it'll always be there

I made a new pivot pin for my uninsulated crimp terminals. With no lathe I found a bit of 7mm bar (an old T Bar from a tap wrench I think). Held in the drill chuck and the circlip grooves cut with a triangular file. Cut to length with a hacksaw held on the pillar drill table. Chamfered by file with the pin in the drill chuck. Blacked with a Sharpie. Redneck style!

I think a lot of it is to do with your torch and your table. a plasma arc is a plasma arc at the end of the day.The Jasic has impressed me.

I thought that as well but I had the same table when I first got the Jasic and the difference between the TecArc with Trafimet and Jasic with Chinese PT100 was very noticeable. The pierce especially, the Tecarc took at least twice as long to pierce compared to the Jasic.
