Don’t start talking , it’s been quiet for a while!

The strongest I’ve ever felt was a 7.8 albeit very deep, over 130km I think. Heard it coming a long way off, scary because you just have to wait til it goes under. The worst I felt was I think a 5 or 6 at a depth of 14km during which I got under my bed, it was very strong. I keep a crowbar under my bed in case of emergencies when I might need to pry myself out from underneath the roof!

TBH, I hadn't considered the earthquake element when I posted that, just that you are diametrically opposite[ish] us here.

First time to make a ‘60’s style balustrade,it was one of those jobs where the customer had a vision of a geometric style and I interpreted it just as she imagined,doesn’t always pan out so well.
I used 40/10 for the vertical & 12 sq horizontal thru a sq punched hole ,as few as possible,enough to stop the verticals flexing.all wire brushed & oiled finish

Today I made a scrap mountain when I stuffed the scrap bin outside the workshop full of broken/wornout mechanical oddsnsods , definitely full There`s about three months worth of discs, bearings, engine parts , trailer parts, machine bits and knackered chainsaw stuff in there. got me thinking about how much the replacement parts have cost me, there is 2.5k`s worth just sat on top

Today, I made a JD2140 look and sound a little bit better.

Replacement glass is on order, but have a set of polycarbonate sheets to cover the near side when hedge trimming.

New mirrors.

Fresh fuel filter so it starts AND runs now..

Finally, a fresh pickup hitch that the previous owner had welded the bolts together because they’ve pulled the threads out of a couple of holes so needed HeliCoiling..

Oh, and swapped a front tyre, which was a pig to get off..

Gave it a wash and hoover out too haha

Trailer to sort tomorrow!

yes, a victorian terrace, with some original '60's furniture,at first I wasn't sure if it would suit an older house ,but as my assistant says "looks just like it grew there"

Wouldn't want to be without it, having had one in my Dads garage back in my late teens was determined to have one when building mine

Took a fair bit of digging out, we are at the bottom of a valley and the river is about 100yds away, some of the boulders that came out were huge

Your gardens like mine except ours was formed as the result of glacial activity twelve or more thousand years ago .

I've use one of the biggest rocks as a feature point on the patio as the two tonne digger couldn't lift it .... we could only roll it on a made up slope with the digger , a 3 tonne chain hoist , three pieces of 6x 6 oak beam for a lifting frame( each 5 foot long ) & a 4 tonne come along puller . It became a salmon's head with a little bit of careful penciling to drfaw in the eyes gills & mouth & the use of a 4 "angle grinder.
Smaller ones we took out to about 18 inches across ended up as features on the ponds water fall or as ground hiders placed around my lasses pink granite water feature . Bigger ones got pushed to the back of th garden to reinforce a 10 foot sloping bank .

Smoke, and lots of it. I’m burning off the weed heap which has dried out after I saw a rat in it the other week! Also managed to get the wood we couldn’t fit in the store under wraps for the colder months. I’ve been tending this fire for about four hours now and we’re not even halfway through!

Well good morning to all, again not just today, well not at all today, been cleaning up and maintenance, so over the last several days got my order for 5 playground thingies and started construction.

Setup the plasma and cut all the components, base plates, gussets, top plates and rolled flat bar into rings. Did some hole drilling and some tapping. Told you the welding would improve, still not what I would like but better. Have been having tip trouble and feeding issues welding the 10mm plate using 1.2mm solid wire. Have changed over to the Abicor Binzel 455T gun with 10mm sliver tips, notably better.

This was tacked up with a single phase mig, then put on the rotator and welded, it is also better not perfect but better. Still need to get the setting just right. This machine is a 200amp has .8mm wire in it and was flat out. Fed it with a 32amp supply didn't trip out on thermal but melted the on/off switch. I now have to get a replacement switch for this machine as it is the machine I use for bore welding.

This is the adaptor bit which goes on top of the hub. Bit of hollow bar machined, drilled and tapped. Holes are 18mm fine. Weld is a multi run fillet. First run is done with 1.2mm solid at about 300amps (I took a quick glance). The caps were done with the single phase machine with .8wire flat out. The penetration with the 3phase machine is min 4mm as when it is being welded you can see the hole being melted in the root. I had a selection of wire so fiddled settings and gave everything a go. Even the two Essetti 3phase machine came out of retirement for this. All done with standard mig no pulse, so 'Francis' had some days off. Never had used the Essetti 3 phase machines for steel before, so with a bit of knowledge acquired recently they worked quite well.

Few recent bits here.
Double action door. (Mine not to reason why) caused me no end of trouble with hinges not being up to the job. Solution. £233 on a set of 6"ss spring hinges. Works very well

Pocket door installed. Kitchen larders butting up to studs.

Block and beam ceiling and they need an extractor over the island. Hmm.

Gonna have led around the top gap and lighting/speakers in the ceiling island.

all skirting is inset into the wall. Timber to be fitter after tiling.

Plasterers were not happy.

Couple of easy weeks now. Had enough of work and need a break.

Are they the same as fitted to 2-way doors in restaurants for waiters to get in/out of the kitchens? If so, plenty closing down all over the place, by all accounts, so a possible source for future.....?

One in a cafe years back and this one. Can't see a rush on em in domestic environs

I can understand the reason for using them, that porch/corridor is very narrow.

I’ve fitted saloon doors before, nowhere near that cost. (Was a whileback though)

Aye. Some I viewed were closer to 400. Some higher.
Door weight was 35 kg. Veneered door so floor and head pivots were a no go.as can't profile the edges for clearance.

We started out with cheaper hinges. They failed badly. Didn't have the guts to hold the door up.

Gave him the option of other cheaper options (£180) but only put my money on these working no issues.
