Yes mate, or rather it should but does not.
I don't suppose you have a imperial thread gauge and could check yours for me could you? I will have to get another one, the only one I can find is the metric one.

I don't have sutch a thing as a imperial thread guage sorry I had not used imperial in years if at all untill I got this lathe and started playing with it

zx9 this is mine it works out at 9 to 1/2" so 18 tpi shoul be right

But the new mandrel nut will only screw on by a quarter of a turn, suggesting it is the wrong TPI but how comes the old ones are a slightly sloppy fit on the tap.

I remember seeing a chart that showed all the usual threads and how much a nut with a particular thread would go onto a mismatched thread, some as you found only go on slightly but some can go on completely but obviously will not provide the same degree of security of fixing. I does look like the nut you have is off of a conduit or suchlike due to it being galvanised (or it looks to be) and how narrow it is.

I would have thought UNF was very unlikely. BSF is 14TPI.

I have found my thread gauge it is not 14TPI, it is 18TPI but though the peaks of the thread gauge say it is 18TPI the profile does not match. However I have found that 5/8" 18TPI exists as a 55deg whitworth thread in the form of 'BS Conduit' which would explain the gland nuts fitting.

I think it may have to wait until I make a bracket for this.

Just completed yesterday after powder coating. Just had to rivet the top deck and bottom dress sheets.

For those that are wondering it is upside down.
Don't know why orange, but orange is what the customer wanted, must be fast, but not as fast as red

Today I make a start on the BBQ [finally]. Progress has been slow, but at least I've started......

Hinges made on the lathe and tacked on prior to cutting out the 'lid', ditto the handle. Doubtless I'll have questions when it comes to painting [that blue stuff & whatever's beneath seems tough?] Never had much success with painting due to rattle cans, but at least I now have a teeny compressor & a couple of spray guns. Beyond using VHTP, I'm part of the 'paint incognoscente'..... Questions will be asked....

Anyway, hinges ready for tacking [they're made to allow complete lid removal by sliding sideways ]

Tah Dah!! [although final weld will need re-adjustment of one hinge . It'd be handy being an octopus for these jobs ]



It's amazing the amount of crap there was in there, probably a result of all the water I subjected it to get rid of all traces of gas. It's currently soaking in paraffin, after an initial scraping....



How do you guys remove the paint? Or do you need to? Would just sanding + over-painting it work? I'm thinking....paraffin....match.....

I buy hinges straight off the shelf personally, But fair play if you've got the time & patience!

Poly discs or flap discs work well to remove paint off gas tanks from my experience, Then use VHT paint would be my thought

Look forward to seeing the finished article!

Plasma cut a 200mm x 200mm x 16mm plate to hold a 30Tonne towing hitch then put it in the Chiron to bore the 20mm dia mounting holes and finally broke the edges of the holes with a countersink on the Arboga drill.

Also had to remove the computer from the CNC Lathe as it packed up halfway through making a roller.

Made my CNC lathe work again today. Ended up having to put a normal sized micro ATX motherboard in (244mm x 208mm) instead of the Pico (100mm x 72mm) but as I have plenty room it is not a problem.
Was hoping the Pico I had as a spare was working as it would mean the hard drive would connect up no problem and load as before due to the same hardware, sadly the spare Pico didn't play ball. I was lucky though, the original hard drive connected to the new motherboard sailed right through into Windows easily and just started finding new hardware. Had to connect a PS2 mouse to get the new drivers loaded (no internet connection on the Lathe, only networked) and all went well and I am now up and running.

Need to get the wiring tidied up a bit but at least it is back up and running and I was able to make the roller.

Not unless you consider XP to be newish?
I used to find that Win95/98/2k would be no problem but XP and W7 I would hit issues and have to format and reinstall.
Can't remember exactly but used to go into the registry and delete some keys if I was going to be putting the hard drive in to new hardware but it was that long ago I have forgotten which ones.

I made layout fluid. Bit hard to find here, didn't feel like waiting and paying a lot in shipping when I found out I should have all I need at home to make my own. Basically thin shellac, then a dye. I used fountain pen ink for the blue version and leather dye for the red. The blue one turned out real nice (noodler's baystate blue, it's insanely blue when writing too). The red was hard to see so I went with the blue stuff.

Tested it on a credit card holder I found in my drawer.

Not that exciting and made for my bike but technically I did make them. They're quick release seat pins to aid removal of my riders seat without using tools.
