Paint it in acid paste then power wash it away and once dry , weld pick off the slag when stone cold then cold galv spray it ?Thanks.
I happened to meet a welder earlier today and I asked for his opinion. He said he'd weld it closed. Also said I hadn't ground the galvanized back far enough.
So, how am I going to remove that galvanised in the inside corner? Can't get in there with a grinding disc. I don't have a die grinder - do I need one?
Looks good my friendFirst try at knurling, M6 thumbscrew, made the shoulder a bit too long, bit of a test.
Happy with the knurling tho, well grippy!

A poet and you didn't even know itPoor lonely woolly tatty sheep
Still eating green Welsh grass
Pining her bleating heart away
Awaiting for Taff's staff
Did you use inkscape? If i set you a suitable svg would you do me a couple? Paid of courseAnother keyring for my big sister, wasn't as easy getting this one done as the spaniel was, took quite a bit of fiddling about with brightness and contrast and tracing before it looked ok. Waiting for some more leather to arrive so just did a test as it is slightly smaller than I want plus the bottom of the oval is a wee bit clipped.
Could probably do with getting some sort of image programme for picture editing but not sure what and certainly not fancying the learning curve no matter what I end up with.
Anyway the keyring.

It took me a while to discover not only the importance of knurling dead center to the axis , but also that the slower the lathe speed and then longer you left the knurler in one place with only very slight in feed every 10 seconds or so the better the knurling pattern .First try at knurling, M6 thumbscrew, made the shoulder a bit too long, bit of a test.

Will the reflection cause a problem? I seem to recall one of the lasers at work got damaged that way. Not sure though.Mad a plywood keyring yesterday as a test.

I then tried on some 4mm leather, tried all sorts of settings but it just wouldn't cut all the way through so looks like 4mm leather is too much for the laser.

Found a piece of 1.3mm leather and had more luck with that but I really need it a bit heavier duty.

Going to make an air assist and see if that helps on the 4mm, if not I will have to get some 2.5-3mm and try that.
Also made a bed of nails for the laser, didn't fancy paying £50 upwards for a honeycomb bed and this seems to work well enough.

I'd live there
That's looking fantastic but I've got to ask if the doors open out over how wide is that step in front of them ? it's hard to tell from the picture . I presume they'll open fully back .
Not sure I follow, what reflection? Will the reflection cause a problem? I seem to recall one of the lasers at work got damaged that way. Not sure though.
