In this case the rod came trough the block, pity I didn’t take more pictures of the job before/after. The cast was an interesting cast iron mixture, it welded ok with preheat with almost no cracking - credit to German quality castings !I have used silicone bronze on a smaller repair

15mm plate... it’s a 6 cyl tractor engine...they are working these really hard over here !
