Re assembled my tail stock having thoroughly cleaned out all the grot which was mostly dead tree and brass, stripped off all the layers of paint given it a blow over with Rustoleum's finest. There is a problem with the hand wheel but I shall post that elsewhere.

made yesterday on the Colchester Master 2500 at the preserved railway workshop.

2 60mmOD 35mmID bushings for a job for a fellow forum member. Nothing too fancy required so just drilled. Could have done the job on my Boxford but it takes hours boring it out.

Very little. I took the hole size up in stages to make it a bit easier and everything seems to be quite tight on the lathe given its age. The 35mm was done at about 170rpm - the torque on this Colchester is unreal and makes my Boxford look like a toy.

given the right speed and feed with white water you can get the swarf coming out in 2 continuous lengths with no chatter and only use a pilot drill and 2 bigger to get there

Aye, had plenty of long "stringy ********" so nice and slow feed in to get them to break every now and then.

I’ve got Morse taper drills on my shopping list, I saw a big crate of used ones a while ago, all sizes up to about 2” and the guy was selling them for £3 each, I had no use for them at the time, but would jump at that now, nice and easy to resharpen too. :laughing:

15 min project before day trip out today cut out from a sheet of 1.2mm scrap and used the metal brake I made to fold, lick of paint and it was dry by the time we got home.

No more Grinders laying about :laughing:

Managed to blast this, nice little job actually. The cast is complex but the large openings are ideal for getting the blaster nozzle into. I shall have to bring the other two bits and the screw in now!

Hah, just deciding if I want to move some cabling around so I can have them in a row to satisfy my OCD or find its own little home. Cordless are my “go to” grinders now - definitely the future :laughing:

Is that the dewalt 54v grinder?
If so how do you find it compaired to the 18v one?

Yes it is a 54v. Compares night and day grunt wise, it will do anything my Bosch Mains grinder will and the battery lasts a lot longer than the 18v too.

Only downside is its bigger and heavy on the tail end with the battery. I use the 18v for Slitting Discs and the Flexvolt for flap discs, perfect setup for me, i have multiple of each battery type which i just cycle across the chargers so never have a power issue.

I would recommend the Grinder, it's almost replaced my Bosch entirely.

Just drilled them out on my little Chinese lathe relying on the 3 jaw chuck to hold them central enough and used the depth gauge on the tail stock. fortunately they didn't need to be super accurate

Yesterday I got a hand to clean up the outside space at the back of the workshop which allowed me to make a start of welding the hopper up, got on quite well.
