Believe me it was. This lathe was made in 1943 and delivered to the US army ordnance corps for the war effort. That means it got a 'war finish' which basically meant they rough-ground the lumps off the castings then painted them. That means it was near impossible to scrape the paint off because of all the little lumps and bumps on the castings.

Made a new locking pin for my dremel look alike.

Once i made the pin it worked but button did not really pop back out. Maybe a piece is missing?

Tried a spring but it kept pushing the plastic button off the pin.

Put a thread on the pin and made a button from brass its a bit taller than i would have liked but it work perfectly.

Bits of my Drummond are like that obviously Myford could not be bothered to finish it nicely. The Tool Station degreaser made light work of stripping of the many layers of paint, it works better than any paint stripper I have used for years.
I went straight on with the paint but will have to do some filling and re paint because it looks a mess in places.

Oven door frame.
The old cast iron one had fallen apart after 160 years.
3mm sheet and reused the fixings apart from drilling the hinges and making new pins

A bit of a " ridge" welded in to match the old casting.

The customer is going to do something to build up the worn top of the cast iron door.

Would do it a bit differently next time.
Originally the doors were edged to look like shaker doors but customer changed there mind. Decorators still haven't painted yet unfortunately so no finished pictures.

whad did u do make a jig up and use depth stop on pillar drill. bang em out no bother

Today I chopped up 24m of 3" x 3" x 3/16" wall Aluminium box.

Then welded most of it together.

Eventually I hope it will turn into this.
