A little job that’s been on the agenda for a looong time that I kept meaning to do and then promptly forgot about every time.

A starter panel for my pillar drill to avoid turning it on and off from the socket (ahem!).

Made from bits I’ve had kicking around from various jobs at work - so didn’t actually cost anything apart from a few quid for the abs box from Screwfix. I’ll add some spiral wrap to the wires to tidy them up before it gets mounted on the drill.

I’d have liked to stick a proper overload in there but the box was a bit tight for space, I might try and squeeze one in by removing the terminals or put a fused terminal in there - a fuse in the plug will suffice for now, it’s been like that for about 3 years so a bit longer won’t hurt…

Failed completely
Perfectly polished the handle of the stayer Len 200 no sanding needed.
The main plastic body/motor housing got a ton of varnish, spray glue and epoxy clear coat that even using a rotary orbital sander 80grit came off.
Ended up painting it.
I hate paint on plastics because it a shortcut into the restoration project and it's not genuine because it doesn't birth like that.
Anyways in this case I've had no choice because of the conditions and the plastic composition and damage.
Fortunately at least it's not a part you actually touch and mess up easily with your hands.
I'll apply PVC clear coat on tomorrow for extra protection, it's already dry but I want it to cure overnight

Just discovered I have to repaint the thing because of dust fell on the paint

The contactor is virtually cube shaped so no matter which way round it still takes up the same space, but I might see if it helps. The issue is the rear of the stop/start switched protrude quite a way so I can’t fit anything more than a few mm deep behind them, hence the contactor and terminals being pushed up on the right. To be honest the fuse in the plug will be good enough, I could fit a circuit breaker in so might do that - but I’m not overly worried.

Made a couple of clocks for my sisters. They’re getting other stuff, too, not just rusty metal! One wants a stag silhouette so that’s today’s job.

The dog shape was a generic outline found online, printed to A3, and broadly traced around. Took a minute or two to get used to using the plasma again. The pair of clock mechanisms were from Amazon (£8). Tried to rust them with vinegar as they’re meant to be red Labs.

I know - I have some that fit to the bottom of the contactor or some other stand alone units but neither will fit in the box whichever way I mount the contactor. The stop/start switch means nothing will fit on that side as the contact blocks protrude through.

The last 3hp motor I bought to replace a burnt out one on a compressor I acquired had one of them and it burnt out as well.
It turned out the compressor needed a 4hp motor but the push button overload didn't save the motor.
It's now on a 4hp motor with a DOL starter and hasn't missed a beat.
Being able to adjust the current limit is a very useful feature.

I have been having issues with the push/pull gun on my EWM Phoenix. I eventually tracked it down to corroded pins in the socket so yesterday I ordered some new pins and made up an extractor tool.

Got all of the pins extracted and new ones fitted.

All back together but it will be a few days before I can test it out.

Also adapted the miniature Android Auto/Carplay WIFI dongle that I use on my bike for Android Auto.

Removed the USB plug from it, chopped up an old USB cable and soldered that in place. Also put some hot glue on the end of the plug and on the face of the circuit board so that they won't scrape together and short.

Fitted it to the bike, a tight squeeze but it does fit.

The waterproof cap fits on fully.

And so far it seems to be working, Kurviger app open on the bikes screen.

Proper job

Nice coat or two of gloss black over multiple primer coats.

And fit to the implement, nice and tight so it doesn't rattle about before it's had chance to build up an anti rattle layer of cow sh1te!

What temperature was needed to melt it?

Don’t know.
Regulator was fully open on my propane furnace.
It is an alloy of unknown brazing rods.
Mainly brass and silver.
This one is going for a test to see what I did and probably will get.

Back in September I made a near gallon of blackberry vodka and a gallon of "president plum brandy" - mainly plums and vodka with added brandy.

I strained the blackberry vodka through muslin into a clean jar then tried to filter it through the old Vinbrite type syphon/filter.

This was left of the berries after straining through the muslin:

It then clogged the filter pads, even the coarse one, so quick it was unreal. Only filled 4 250ml bottles before I had one filter pad left. Some old Avery sheets and a bit of AI for the labels.

Tried the plum one through a coarse pad and that has so much body it didn't even start!

Mulling pouring it over charcoal and letting it seep through as a DIY method.

An afterthought...mulling whisking up and egg white in a pint of the vodka and adding back to the demijohn as finings. Last used that method for my mead a couple of years back.
