Made this originally with the intent to clamp it to the bench/put in vice but actually works better clamping the alu to the bench and using the box section part as a lever!

Technically I had the bench already (a freebie from a garage I used to work at, not overly well made or flat topped but usable) and the lin bin rack is a big one cut in half, the pigeon hole storage was a Facebook cheapie at £5 a while back, all I've actually done is make some mounting plates for the vices (a lovely pair of record 25s!) so they don't mangle the 4mm top, and make some box frames for behind the bin storage. Then weld it all together.


Now to get my 30mm thick 1500x1500mm top made I travelling table... Only been on the list a year now...!

It is indeed Gordon, all I've done is lube it up and add a stainless handle to match the other.

Been making more of a mess today. Random cut, down to 145mm, planed all four sides. That timber is 5.7mtrs long.

Then on to tweedle dumb watching over how the job is done with a chain morticer. That’s not me in the picture either..

Gaffer doesn’t quite understand what space is needed and still insists on having all the really useless crap, including a shed, inside this bit of barn..

What exactly is it for?

The steel thing is for shaping the alu....put the folded sheet between the two bits of tube and push or pull...sure there's a name for it.
The alu part is just a test piece...the actual job is to cover and square off the radius corner pillars on a truck but keeping the cant rail radius at the top

Finally completed this project that's been on the go on and off for a few weeks now mixing my two of my hobbies woodturning and welding.

The seat is made from fifty year old iroko from the school I work at; some of the science labs got new worktops using a bursary from outside industry - perfect condition once I'd chiselled off the chewing gum, goodness knows what else on the underside, and the chemical burns & pupils' etches on the top with the thicknesses planer at school! Cut it into strips, laminated it and made the seat - pleased with the Osmo hard wax oil finish.

Welded the steelwork after some CAD design; only a few millimetres across the bottom but sorted that by using 3mm and 5mm plates for the castors. Went a bit nuts, as I always do, with the flap disc and twisted wire cup on the grinder but it's had a few coats of Hycote acrylic lacquer to stop it rusting. Bang on 600mm height which is what I wanted. The main upright is actually three pieces welded together as I used offcuts from the work-in-progress workshop bench...

@brewdexta is collecting a load of worktopsand banister, taken from Selby College 25yrs ago, we converted the hall and other room into a PC suit. They binned loads of laboratory cabinets out as well, I’ve still use 7 of them.
