Well I didn’t so much make, but put together. A Brades axe head I was given, and a new old stock American hickory handle I found in a charity shop.

I was a bit embarrassed to post this when I set it up, so this was done a couple of weeks ago and it hasn't fallen down. I can say with some confidence that it works.

Now that the summer is here and the weather is warm, sunny and bone dry, I am out of the workshop and back onto the chassis of my camper project. The donor chassis is rusty and has layers of old paint on it. The plan is to grind down the high spots, fill in the holes and angle grinder scars from its previous life and then remove worst of the rust before hitting it with a coat of primer. Once the flat grey primer is on I will be able to see how pitted the steel go about polishing the proverbial.

I want to do as good a job on the underside as the top, but it is too heavy for me to manhandle on my own and it's not practical for me to crawl underneath it. While I was adding the jacking points at the back (they are made to fit the Land Rover jack), I drilled another hole to fit a temporary pipe into. The idea is to make a "spit" to turn the chassis on. The result is a bit Heath Robinson looking, but it is solid. I can turn the whole thing over with one hand. A saw horse under both side when it's upside down stops it from trying to right itself.

Once it got up to a good working height for me I realised that the hubs still fouled on the ground, hence the trenches.

Made the forge burner a while back but needed a way to securely hold it in the fire bricks, knocked up a simple frame with a mount that allows adjustment in the height.

No pictures (too tired), but I built a tiny lean-to hut for my lengths of metal. They had been, up to this evening, living on the floor of the big hut, and being tripped over constantly.

It’s not pretty, but the frame was made from a couple of old aluminium ladders, which I cut down, I then covered with some bits of old metal hut facing. The roof is another ladder, with any old thing on top.

I know that doesn't sound too clever, but I do need to redo the big hut’s roof, so no point in taking too much time on something I will be dismantling again. Thing is, I now have a metal ‘stash’, and fewer trip hazards in the hut.

Hopefully by the time I rebuild it, I will have all my brackets made for it too.

Been making a batch of tie rods and nuts for a vintage car marque. Been a fun project. Eventually got round to doing the grease grooves today. Non event of the year once I got my head around how to machine the two grooves,180 degrees apart ,parallel to the surface of the ball...

Really bad croissants.


Should have rolled it thinner before I folded it, should have rolled it thinner before I cut them to roll up and once I'd shaped them, they didn't rise at all. I possibly didn't knead the dough long enough either, I was worried about overdoing it.

I'll try again soon rolling much thinner but I'm not sure why they didnt rise, I might try to find fresh yeast, this was from a sachet I've had a couple of years.

At least it smells nice.

Not today but a couple of days ago I made a stand for my band saw.
I've been using a block of polystyrene and ply as a makeshift stand and it served it's purpose but it was stuck in a corner and was only any use for cutting short bits.

I wanted something on wheels so I could pull it out into the middle of the floor and cut miters on long sections.
As usual I just made it out if whatever scrap I had laying about, in this case rusty angle and water pipe.

I used the bandsaw for cutting the miters and a @pressbrake1 square got a bit of use as well. (Great tool by the way)

Mixture of stick and tig, so I got a bit of well needed practice into the bargain.

Finished article works a treat.
As you can see not much time spent on prep but good enough for what it is (I think)
I just need to get some Hitachi green to finish it off.

I could / should have made the base a bit wider (or pushed the casters further outboard) to make it more stable, but I'm stuck for room and I will use it with a roller stand to support the end of long sections.
I'll probably add a shelf and a drawer to store crap.

Aluminium pulley for ground investigation rig. London Underground said original steel one was too heavy for manual handling. Ally will probably suffer erosion from the steel rope but its not long term

Good saw and I got it cheap on here.
After trying it I saw why.
You can't use oil or coolant with it (I've tried as did the original owner) because the blades won't stay on when the rubber rim on the pulleys get contaminated.
I cleaned them and it has worked a treat since but blades don't last a long as they might.

Polystyrene was left over after a job and came out of a skip.
Without wanting to start a geotechmical discussion on long term settelment of reclaimed ground, they were placed on top of piles in a tarmac area that was expected to settle to prevent hard spots.
The compressive strength and rate of crush of the polystyrene was designed to suit the ground conditions and it was expensive stuff.
Just looked like standard polystyrene and I insulated the roof of my garage with it.

Forgot to take any photos. Basically had a dividing head on the cnc mill, set over to the required angle. Wrote a program to get the correct tool path. Cut one groove with a 17mm diameter carbide grooving tool,then rotated the part 180 degrees and repeated the program

Bit of rework on the spigot shaft as customer failed to mention the splined sleeve that goes between the bearing and the small clutch plate. More that a bit miffed,as I specifically asked. Shaft now hardened to 62Hrc( hacksaw blades are about 55Hrc), so a bit of an ****. 8000rpm as that’s all I could muster with the right tool,and its loving it...

@Johnnybravo , I expect the originals are forged so what material are you making the steering rods oit of and do they need heat treatment?
