@Johnnybravo , I expect the originals are forged so what material are you making the steering rods oit of and do they need heat treatment?

They are made out of a suitable material that’s fairly hard to start off with.They are going for further heat treatment next week. Will be hard wearing ,but will bend before they break.

Good saw and I got it cheap on here.
After trying it I saw why.
You can't use oil or coolant with it (I've tried as did the original owner) because the blades won't stay on when the rubber rim on the pulleys get contaminated.
I cleaned them and it has worked a treat since but blades don't last a long as they might.

Polystyrene was left over after a job and came out of a skip.
Without wanting to start a geotechmical discussion on long term settelment of reclaimed ground, they were placed on top of piles in a tarmac area that was expected to settle to prevent hard spots.
The compressive strength and rate of crush of the polystyrene was designed to suit the ground conditions and it was expensive stuff.
Just looked like standard polystyrene and I insulated the roof of my garage with it.

Cheap, paper mache doors for now as I'm about to gut the adjacent room (floor dug down for UFH, ceiling down etc). This is a sanctuary to escape from all the debris that is the rest of the house! Love these AM60 magnetic door catches. A doddle to fit and nothing to catch your hip or a kid's head. Video:

You could have just set me off down a very fruitful or expensive rabbit hole.
Expensive because every time it throws a blade I loose a few teeth and M42 blades for it are £25 odd and there is bound to be a few fails before I got something to work.

It explicitly tells you on the saw not to use cutting oil but if the oil was wiped off the blade as you suggest it might work.

What about a sprung loaded plastic blocks in front of the wheel? And or a bit of cotton?
Or a spinning powered brushes like some people use to clean the teeth?
Or compressed air?
Or a mist of solvent?
Or all of the above
Would I only need to clean the side of the blade that runs on the rubber of the pulleys?

What about blade tension?
Can you change the rubber?

Anyone tried it?

In fairness the blade stays fairly cool to the touch but it might be a different matter on the contact points of the teeth.

I use M42 6/10 varitooth 1/2 inch blades from Tuff Saws.
Is that a good choice for mixed cutting? (angle, box, pipe, solid bar)

Metal cutting bandsaws that utilise coolant do not run tyres on the wheels,they are completely metal for the very reasons outlined earlier. Remachine the wheels to run without tyres?

There is no crown, just a step at the back to stop the blade heading off in the wrong direction,and the section where the teeth are,is relieved. Or teeth running in fresh air. Can get photos later as I have one in pieces at the moment

Is there just a skin ,like a tyre shrunk on,skim that off,maybe shorten the blade to compensate,or make and fit steel rims and shrink on?

I re crown/ machine the wheels off a large bandsaw for a steel stockist every few years
Must depend on the bandsaw

Putting knuckle radiuses on some rounded ends and assembling this week... 3mm stainless, done by hand. Stereo welded, dressed out and ready to polish out.

Speaking of kitchens, ours isn't finished yet, but after much wrangling today the new dishwasher is plumbed in, the washing machine is plumbed in and the new sink and tap are plumbed in. That end is pretty much finished minus the tiling.
Mason mitre on the L but to do next but that's Sunday's job.

Is that welded from both sides at the same time? (like used to be done with oxy acetylene to join thick plates)

Two welders in the same puddle one from inside one from outside. Usually only one welder adding rod

Not too sure to be honest. I guess it would reduce distortion to an extent as you should have roughly the same heat input on both sides but you’re only reinforcing and chilling one side so you could still get distortion.

The main benefit I see is it saves purging the part which may be otherwise difficulty to do.
