Climb up on the roof with long handled loppers, I've literally just jumped down.

Got a stub shaft in today to see what I could do with it. I have never seen anything like it before in my life and I have seen some rough jobs
I forgot to take a pic of it complete but here is the shaft after I had bored it out of the flange.
Instead of a keyway and key it had a series of screws.

Also someone had tried to weld the cast taper lock bush onto the shaft, not going to be very successful at the best of times but these welds didn't stand any chance

New shaft pressed in and welded.

Into the lathe and turned down to 1 3/4"

Then into the Chiron to cut the keyway.

Ready to go.

I then had a cutlass bearing to turn down. It was a real PITA to do as it had to be fairly true over the full length, I got it within 0.01mm over the 10 or so inch and will flip round tomorrow and do the bit held in the chuck.

Last night I made a new grate for a cat carrier since we're gonna need it this week, pretty beefy compared to the original.

Is this cat domesticated?!? Or is Shere Khan coming to visit?

Not as unsuccessful as me trying to weld a bit of BRASS angle to a steel box section a couple of hours ago.....

It involves a sleepless night, dirty glasses and working in a shady place.....

Dunno about everyone else but I can look at a spanner and tell what size it is with a very high success rate.

Not me, have to get most of the similar sizes out before I get the right one, luck I don’t need this skill to make a living

there not . the jobs accurate once you have taken a cut but not once removed and re fitted .a 4 jaw is needed and clocked up

I just set my calipers and check at the drawer these days. My spanner drawers would give some here nightmares

Also worth mentioning, even the hard jaws are pretty accurate in that chuck. It is not a scroll chuck Or at least not a conventional one.

It's what I had at hand to work with, we also got two of them, the other transport cage is fine though. Don't actually use them since they like to drive in the car, but we're taking them to the vet tomorrow to get them neutered.

It is a Forkardt F type chuck, pic below of the internal mechanism, basically it is a manually operated wedge chuck.
