Yup my now 2 1/2 yo at less than a year old was climbing the ladder. That stopped him in his tracks
Doesn't stop him now if he's determined. He swings off the rails and hooks a leg over. Quite impressive to watch tbh.

I bought a mixer, a swedish Electrolux Assistent from the 1980s. These are great for bread baking. I have a conventional mixer (Kenwood major) that does all the usual stuff well enough, but I've never been entirely happy with the dough hook kneading so when I found this for 20 euros I decided to make it a project.

First thing to do is take it apart. I'm going for as complete a renovation here. I'm also going to bleach the plastic parts using hydrogen peroxide and UV method. The design is pretty simple, a motor drives a gearbox via a flat belt and on top it's the bowl that rotates, not the tool.

Started polishing some of the parts, they had gotten a patina with the years, I am not sure what material this is, not aluminium anyway.

Polished the bowl as well

Motor starts without any problems though this old RIFA capacitor should be swapped on principle alone.

The "PTO" for various accessories looks like it has had a hard life. I am not sure if it will work or not like this. I think though I could repair this on the lathe and superglue in a new part, or some other method of fastening.

Project will continue later.

Made a nut today, weird size thread, 2 5/8" x 12 TPI.
Only steel I had that was suitable was some tool steel of unknown grade that I had acquired years ago, turned lovely but you could hear it was hard when I did the milling.

New and Old.

If they need another they will have to supply the material as that was the last bit of 4" dia steel I had

Not today but yesterday evening I've sharpened and hardened my chipping hammer

A hard to find, 2 speed Leytool Breast drill.

The handle has been repaired, at first glance it looked good. Looks can be deceptive.

I had "Help" stripping it down.
Did you know there are 3 springs 6 shims in one of those drills. All different.



I also noted that each jaw as a stamp on it, what matches up with a spring. What does match with a easy found mark.
Until you look in the tap cap. When you know this assembly is easy.
No it is not. Made no crap difference.
Wasted time there.



Hot washing soda cleaned up the ally nicely.



2 springs in place. One in the centre. This gives correct pressure on the gear wheel retaining screw. That has to go in the right way. The second is behind the gear assembly.



Breast pad and bar, liberated from a Stanley breast drill.

It should of fitted. But the welding repair has distorted the case. So the 2 holes don't line up.

But it is workable.

Today I cut some 8mm steel on the plasma.

Welded it up, fitted the tool setter socket and bored/tapped the top of the headstock on the lathe.

And with the too setter arm in the raised position.

I will now have to cut away the top section of the sliding cover on the lathe so that it will close, I will then have to fabricate a section so that coolant doesn't get sprayed all over the workshop.

A gentle strip down, a bit of heat on the screws.
Yes you guessed it.




The break was old, very little clean metal in the break.
Hence why it didn't ring.

A cunning plan was hatched.



It is a solid repair. But the heat showed a lot more cracks.

So we decided to a Monty Python.
Run away.

So the kit was out.

Actually, I produced nothing today.

Saw GP in the morning and got answers to a few questions before having the regular bloods taken, ate lunch, had a pal call in after lunch, got a few homemade pancakes + a 'freshly' flat scone baked [as in still hot] from a neighbour, which was nice.

Argued with an International Seller via the interweb, took on O2 by 'live chat' having been without service for 8 days. All in all, nowt really.

Oh, and it's rained virtually all day.

Today I just about killed myself lifting a bit of stainless onto the plasma table, it probably weighed in about 80kg but it is the lack of space in the plasma shed that makes things harder.

I then cut 2 circles from said stainless, 235mm dia and with the thickness being 16mm (top end of piercing range) I did edge starts.

I then chucked them in the lathe and bored out the centre to 50mm in preparation for welding some stub shafts into them.
