There is; the internal 1.5mm deep rebate for the trophy to sit in/on - I explained I can't do that.

You ought to be able to make a flat by using a marquetry insert .. chose carefully so it aligns with the grain
Turn up a thin bar of the same wood in a four jaw chuck to the same radius ...it can all stick out on one side of the chuck , thin it out then cut it off where needed & glue it in place sprinkle some of the wood dust over the joint to get colour into the glue . Let it cure then sand it fine , varnish & smooth several times till it gets a deep shine

I'm aptemting to refuse the idea of make a steel pig money bank (I don't how I should call it) openable only using an angle grinder and fill it with coins until I can't even move it
All this to keep money to buy a lathe and a milling machine

Tips learnt for years of robbing piggybanks & making them for pubs & clubs etc .

Make it like a mtr tall& square base pyramid in 6 mm steel plate so it cannot easily be picked up , have a 6 mm round hole for notes and a slot for the biggest coin . … for the note hole put a tube on the inside in so no one can fish out notes with long hooked wire and put a long four sided roll slot inside ( Looks like a fattened elephant trunk ) for the coins with a bit of a bend in it so no one can tip it on its side and use a hacksaw blade to slip coins out . Bolt it down using shear- off- cone nuts and chemical anchor studding .

I've got a 3 litre brandy bottle in my room, it's about half full of coins and I think there's around 200 quid in it so far. Based off that, your metre square pyramid will take about thirty grand to fill it. With notes as well you'd probably get more than a million in it.

I wish I had a £100 for every big bottle coin collection I knew was nicked off the bar , stolen from the village hall , schools or from peoples homes etc ..I could go on a decent holiday ( not Thomas Cook though )

Get this .. MIL & FIL lived in a bungalow with houses & bungalows all round them in a quiet area near lock number 1 on the great lakes shipping canal Ontario Canada . There was a five foot side fence with a chained up locked gate .
In the early hours of a Friday in the first week of Feb Anne & her sister heard a massive crash noise from the lounge . . Her Hubby was dying in hospital . .. They barricaded the bedroom door woith a pair of special rods that drop into plates either side of the door inside the bedroom and dialled the cops , the cops came within a few minutes . it was minus 22 oC outside .

Someone had thrown a four foot high 150 kg statue through their patio door windows , came inside and picked up a home made coin collection box made to look like the Lune . A duck sat on its belly ( national bird of Canada ) which was some 20 inches high in the middle of its back . The coin holding area in it was about as big as a 50 wash , wash powder box .
It was almost full of two Canadian dollar coins aka "Toonies " likely to weigh 60 kg plus .. only one set of foot prints in the snow from & to tyre tracks by the path to the side gate .. side gate still locked with chain & security style padlock .

Cops reckoned it was some junkie on crystal meth to have that sort of strength . Total time to get in , out & away was less than 20 seconds when th CCTV was checked .

I really would like to build a weathervane. I even bought some Corten as a material for it's "pedestal" and then my Inspiration Fu went walkabout. I should really take a bit of time off and just go somewhere for a day out. Time however is very tight right now :-(

Because I can be a bit of an oaf at times I broke the plastic handwheel on the vice on my new bandsaw:

I suspect a manufacturing defect as the metal ring inside is cracked, however I couldn't be bothered to take the whole thing back so I made a new wheel...

It's significantly sturdier than the plastic one...

It clamps tightly around both I turned the back plate down To the same diameter as the spindal
