Today I made this...........



...an 'old-fashioned' parcel.

Birthday present for one of the Grandsons [he'll be 8] - I put a note in the outer box telling him to ask Mum & Dad to explain how folk had to wrap things in the 'old days', before sellotape, 'indestructible' plastic etc. I'd not be surprised if Dad had to get to Google before the young lad, although I did tell him what I was going to do, in case he thought I'd lost the plot [completely].

A bit of a history lesson along with the present..........

I'm still on with the kitchen, I will be for a while......

Last time I had the base cabinets in for half the kitchen, I've now made the wall cabs, all 18mm ply with 9mm ply backs. The cab with the whisky in will be the wife's grogg cabinet. She doesn't drink much but when she does she likes decent whisky, gin, rum and cognac. It will have a glass door painted with some vintage cocktail images. Not leaded, just painted, I'm still looking into that but have an artist friend knocking up some ideas. The left most cab will have nine small drawers in the bottom section, and above the shelf some mini Cambridge Audio speakers.

I didn't have the plinths on last time, the four drawers in the plinth didn't line up with the 5 cabs above, and looked a bit strange. So I tied two drawers together with one front so the plinth looks like its in two pieces with the divider in the middle.

The plinth is walnut veneered ply, I just buy the iron on veneer and sneak out the missus iron The handles are more visible than they will be when the oak face frame is applied as it comes down another 15mm, just clearing the drawers.

The pull out baskets are a bit naff, so will end up in the workshop and get replaced with oak dovetailed trays and draw runners.

Still a bit more work to do, I need to remove the bit of oak skirting on the right and replace it with another walnut pillar. The oak for the face frame and doors should be ready in a week or so, by that time I should be ready. I've put some LED tape under the wall cupboards, just plain white, but under the bottom cabs I have some RGB LED tape and a controller so we can have white, or other solid colours or have them change to the music. That's why we are always in the kitchen at parties.......

If the oak gets delayed I may start on the other side of the kitchen withe sink, I can't mass produce the cabs, each one is bespoke.

Are the feet not meant to be on the same plane?

Edit. Do both sets lean towards each other?

just the photo there just pushed in when you turn them they sit straight

In an effort to make better foccacia I tried ciabatta. 80 percent hydration (400ml water to 500g flour) makes for a truly horrible dough, more of a batter and all but impossible to work with.

The texture is getting there, still not perfect. The cut one rose less than the other two so they should be slightly better. It tastes absolutely amazing, I'm thinking meatball and mozzarella sandwich for lunch tomorrow.

amperage was around 160
max interpass 100c so needs air cooling after every pass takes around 12 hrs welding, lots of gas, purge is argon 2%nitrogen
torch high purity argon ,
machine is Kemppi mls 3000 watercooled
with knuckle head torch
ndt is ,xray ,dye pen and camera internaly
so theres no skimping on quality

Big improvement on the draw fronts, I like that.

Spent Saturday and today welding at work! It's usually just little bits, repairs.

We have two submersible boat trailers, for pulling out boats. With hydraulic rams which lift up 30x30cm square pads with rubber on them, at the front, middle and back on each side of the trailer, controlled by a hydraulic pump. About 10 meters long, can get some photos tommorow, didn't think.

So instead of having some small feet taking the weigh of a 8 ton fiberglass boat, some kind of way of linking the two rear legs on each side together.

I'm probably not explaining this very well.

You'll see when it's in place.

Basically got the excuse to arc weld for two days. And found an excuse to Tig a chair stem(?) Back on.

Some nice arc welds for me, and very mediocre Tig, Been a while and I'm still an amateur.
