A certain local architectural partnership around here seems to currently favour using this design of joining gabled steelwork on extensions.

This is the third set up of this design in the last 12 months I have made to their drawings. The box is 100mm x100mm x6mm with 12mm thick plates at all bolted points. The sandwich joint is 3 layers of 12mm plate connected with qty 6 of M20 Grade 8.8 BZP bolts

For what purpose?

2 dogs on the x axis holes to butt the track too.
2 dogs on the y axis to butt the work too.
Perfectly square cuts Everytime.
Or 45deg for that matter.

Just need to finish making the dogs.
Slots are for clamps either on the flat or vertically from the floor.

Got my festive season Lemon & Ginger wine under way today.
I've gone right back to my original recipe from 10 years ago and the taste of the base mix is "just right."
It should ferment out to a fraction over 6%ABV in eight weeks time at an average room temperature of 16°C.

Yes i think when you got the router template, a very useful addition to the workshop with a multitude of uses.

By cutting a packer to butt against the dogs I can make accurate repeat cuts with zero effort.

Did look into buying parallel guides but there near 200 quid.

Today I made....nothing of any consequence. SSE were doing a scheduled pole replacement - 2 x letters + 2 automated phone calls + 1 x follow-up phone call after work completed. Their tech operation is spot on, work done right on schedule , off 10 a.m. and back on at 2.45 - 15 mins ahead of schedule , but try getting sense from their call Centre sometimes.....

Anyway, took neighbours for lunch, and returned to help neighbour [font size deliberate] cut up old pole into 8' sections, as the local fish man had wanted it to use as fence strainers. Nothing goes to waste up here.

It's an extension..... you stick unused and unwanted wicker furniture and dry the washing on wet days in there.

Urgh cutting telegraph poles is horrible, not as bad a old sleepers that weigh more than my landrover (methaphorically) and need a chainsaw but I dont want to knacker my lovely chains (or get covered in the tary gunk) so use a recipricating saw .... and 3 hours ish

Today I made some replacement levers for my Tripods ( see brew room post by me) and some tea light angels on my 50w lasers

per 5 litres: 680 g white sugar, 250g grated ginger, 500ml lemon juice and a sparkling wine Yeast: I'm using Gervin GV3 for wines this year and Gervin GV4 for my Ginger beer starters and (most of) my Meads

Boil sufficient water. add the Lemon juice grated ginger and sugar to a large pot. Then pour 5 litres of boiling water over it all and stir well.
Let this base mix cool to room temperature, strain it through fine muslin cloth, pour it into the Demi-John, add the yeast, put the airlock on it and wait eight weeks.

These Gervin Yeasts will continue fermenting as low as 5°C.

You misunderstand.. why are the beams jointed? Steel full length is available. Or was it access?

Afaik, you have to be careful if trying to use these as fuel, something to do with the creosote content? Might just be to do with clogging up flues/liners etc

That'll only be happening with the short 'surplus' bit.

That'll only be happening with the short 'surplus' bit.

When me and 1st hubby moved into our own house, we cut up and burned old telegraph poles and sleepers all the time. Made a great fire, but needed a decent fire guard to save us from the ‘explosive’ moments.
