Never rely on other people's measurements without a disclaimer. They would have paid my labour twice for that job.

Sometimes I can’t rely on my own measuring. Years ago I needed a pane of glass for one we broke. Thought we would be clever and get it sorted before folks got back from work. Got the sizes totally wrong. It was 100mm too big in both dimensions

I usually don’t but he’s gave me measurements before and never an issue . I allowed for small issues in the price but not this much . Ya win some ya lose some I won’t fall out with him over it il make very little on this job but he gets me a good bit of work so il take a hit on it this time .

I have done that once needed to be spot on so missed the end of the tape to start the beginning of the measurement bang on the 100mm mark, measured, wrote the measurement down. Then went on to disassemble and get on with the job, couple of days later when it was time to cut the new piece, num nuts hear doesn't realise at the time of measurement I forgot to deduct the 1st 100mm.

My dad recently made a pair of doors for a garden shed at 4'6" instead of the 46" he'd measured it at... Dirty mark on the bit of paper he had the dimensions on in just the wrong place...

I couldn’t face a trip to casualty today from my ancient spring compressors so I Rednecked a strut compressor onto my Epco hydraulic press.

Welded a plasma hacked plate to the bead breaker I made some years back and fabricated a dogleg plate that clamps to the lower press bed from 100mm x 8mm steel. Worked perfectly but could do with some safety features for future use.

On a similar theme to @Wallace (nice press by the way) tonight I made a redneck mini break press to fold some 5mm x 530 long stainless to make baffles for the stove I'm trying to sort.





I part cut the stainless with a grinder because I was going to bend it in the vice but the press brake works much better.

It wont be man enough to bend full thickness but I will see how it works tomorrow on the next bend with a shallower cut.
Bit late to be lighting the grinder up tonight.

It’s a lovely simple design and very strong, how many attachments do you have? One day I would like to paint it all and reinstate the Epco transfer.

Made le first part this morning , 1 hour of work ,than had to go to the barber because tomorrow I have to make photos for the driving license
But this afternoon I will be again working on the project and make some photos to share with you all

Purchased a new flap wheel for my second hand 4" air angle grinder to discover I didn't have the tool to remove the old one.

Used my tools to make a tool. Not awful, but not great, however I've got no more than 20 minutes continuous welding under my belt

Does the same attachment turns both concave and convex profiles?

The wife has been nagging me to tidy the way we keep logs in the lounge for the burner, she's had enough of the plastic box / crate borrowed from the shed, so

In the shed I found some tube and a unused trailer wheel arch and put two and two together.[/ATTACH]

I got this Paraffin Road lamp tank.
It came with extra/minus bits.



Holes. Lots off them.



The line of holes goes equally round the 4 sides.. Clearly were the fuel sat on the water.
How to fix it?


Patch it!!
This is a copper hot water heater. It was no good as a heater for a plan I had. So it donated the copper as patches.



Warming up the torch.

Water proof 2 pack filler to hide the terrible repairs and fill any pin prick size holes the sanding will have made.



In paint, second coat off filler primmer.



Silver paint and on a dusty surface, no leaks.



Will now go with the Green Road lamp.
Not a bad repair.

Was it worth it?
No.
The time to cut, tin solder and tin the body to make it leak proof was more than I could get a new /replacement for.
Would I do it again?
Yes.
The fun of doing it, the fun of using lead/tin solder the seal and fill holes was a good fun. That I think out weighs the cost of the parts.

I "Acquired" this in a nice donation.
It didn't work and was very dirty.




Gentle heat was used to free off the parts, in the form of a Heated old fashioned soldering iron.



I dread to think what it was last used with.


Hand polished. The age of the brass allows it to polish up to a nice finish.
The handle was polished on the lathe and buffed with clear boot polish.



Hidden in the cap was a spare leather washer, dry as a bone. But with a leather coat restoration paste ha dit back to being a decent item.



Finished today, nowt else was planned. The pump works a treat on water. A local cat, who's has forgotten were its litter tray is found out.
The lower tube, looks like to be additional to the mail body as the 2 thread forms do not match.
There is no names on any parts. The labels what were on it had long ago lost any writing. I think I need to pick some ones brains.

Thank you Jord, you may say it is a bit crude in construction, I would say a great example of what can be achieved with simple tools.
