Got the Aluminium delivered just after 12 so onto the plasma with it and cut out some bits.
Got the davit/web tacked up.
I seemed to be getting a lot of soot and the weld was not the most stable. I had noticed this the last day or so I was up at the Cat. Welds were ok but just not as nice as they should be. I checked the gas flow with the peashooter and it was fine, so started messing with inductance, voltage trims etc but still just wasn't right. I then discovered this.
The diffuser must have cracked and broken due to the heat and although I was getting 17LPM flow it was not being diffused correctly and thus giving me the problems.
Welds after that were back to normal although I had to tweak things that I had previously adjusted to get back to where I was happy.
Have as much done as I can today as I will have to go and test fit on the boat tomorrow as I will have to offset the lower section due to the shape of the boat.

I thought an engraver at first but then thought rotary motion would be easier.

You got it. It recipicates like a air descaller based on a patent design by Robert Lyndsey. Made on a Machine mart lathe. Pressure on The wood handle allows more air to pass and and increase engraving depth. Labour of love for months to make and refine

Made a stainless bench frame for a fisherman to use for mending creels on.

Then I was able to use that frame to use as a bench instead of the bit of Alu box in the vice, to make another.

I then chopped up some 3" dia x 1/4" wall 6082 tube in preparation for making a davit, have to wait until tomorrow for some 10mm sheet to arrive before I can start welding. I am now at home in the warmthand about to draw/code for cutting the sheet out on the plasma.

Love the artwork on the door looks like 2 aliens, I love some of the artwork left behind when you've been spraying worth a fortune in the right hands. We aint no banksy I have one I will try and find a photo

Ha ha aye, I am kind of kicking myself as I sprayed the elephant and should have covered it up when I did a Bison a while later as it kind of spoiled things.
Finished my attempt at a wheeled pry par. I'd seen one in use moving heavy machines and it certainly helps. Being too tight to buy one, I set too. All made from odds and ends that I already had. The cast wheels came off a dead trolley jack. Had to rely on pictures off the net so hope I've got the angles etc about right. Will give it a try on something suitable at the weekend. Sorry that the pictures aren't very good but a difficult thing to photo.

Spent a few hours on the lathe this afternoon making an MT4.5 shank ER40 collet chuck. You can't buy them (or anything else MT4.5) and I've wanted one for a while, so I decided it was time and got on with it:
The little piece in the bottom left corner is just a slug of steel with an M28×1.5 thread on the outside and an M10 thread on the inside. The collet chuck has the same M28×1.5 thread in the back, so if I put the insert in, I can hold the chuck in place with a draw-bar. If I'm not taking especially heavy cuts, I can remove the insert (and draw-bar) and the collet chuck then has a 26 mm through bore. I would have preferred a 30 mm through bore to match the maximum size of the ER40 collets, but I didn't think it left enough steel for comfort in the MT4.5 bit.
I don't usually take action shots, but the little stepper motor was doing a fine job cutting the taper for me, so I thought what the heck?
