Today, I made [most of] a draw bar so that I can use a collet chuck in the Myford. Just have to decide what I'm going to put on the end for when I need to 'whack it out' [technical term there...

i finished wiring the new head light relays on the ambulance today and what a difference it has made, they are now a lot brighter and happy being fed 13.8v through the relays instead of the poltry 11v through the military switch. i also made a start on the front fogs, knocking up a simple wiring diagram for the fogs so they are only available when the headlights are active and then i will get on with the wiring.

I had to make a new end cap for a Makita impact wrench gearbox. We have a couple of new ones on order but the last one on site fell apart today and we need it for tomorrow. I stripped it down and found that the thread had stripped on the end cap and the whole front end hangs off that part.
Initially I thought to just put the two haves together and tack it in three places with my tig welder or even using loctite bearing fit to bond the halves together. Welding didn't work at all just made a horrible greasy mess and I was a bit doubtful about the loctite since it had stripped a 1mm pitch thread so the gap was quite large. In the end I decided to make one. Took me about 1.5hrs. The thread is 39.3mm diameter 1mm pitch left hand and only 4 turns long. The odd size is because the stripped thead on the cap had also partially worn out the thread in the housing. I turned the OD to 39.3mm and kept doing small threading passes and test-fitting the housing until it screwed on.

Made a right angle fitting for the hydraulic filter. The first side I bored out then seeing as how it was Aluminium I thought I would just tap it 1"BSP, bad mistake, tap isn't the sharpest (a bit like myself) and it nearly killed me 
Next side was single pointed on the lathe, took half the time and no effort required 
It was then welded into the tank, used the Tig for this one.
Fitted a drain plug and a sight glass, you can also see the filter in situ
Next was to bore/tap the top for the filler and return/vent and the 1/4" BSP fitting (not sure what that is for) and then the top got welded on and that was the tank finished.
Next up was to make a couple of mudguards for a small trailer.
Then cut some more Alu up to make lobster separator for a fish box.
fitted together.
It will slip into a fish box like this one I made a few years ago, it stops the lobsters fighting until the can be banded.
And finally this is something I did NOT do although the skipper tried to make out it was me

Part 2.... youngest at it again today. A stand for the gong. His want to do something caught me by surprise. Everything made from bits lying about. The shackles were liberated from my pulling gear. The tubes were notched ( badly) by us both. He had a some largish gaps to fill !

Bit of fun tonight.
A chance to wind down and forget about the working week.
A few days ago I got this, into the day light.
Rusty Pin Vice, the handle was shot, burnt well. The vice itself was solid internally with rust.
Striped, cleaned with a bench grinder wire wheel.
The expansion slots were cleaned with 800 grit wet and dry, lubricated with wax and linseed oil.
A handle, turned from oak. I made it bigger that the old one. I want something I can grip and feel comfortable with.
Handle fitted with 2 pack glue.
Traditionally there were fitted with liquid rock sulphur and saw dust. Saw dust I have, the other I had.
Then sealed and French polished.

The skipper had bought a Parweld Stick welder a while back, looks like he splashed out on some stainless rods as well. Think he may have wasted his money buying themThat puts a smile on us other mortal souls thinking there's still someone worse than me out there

Managed to get the rest of the wiring done on the ambulance today, fitted the relays and made some nice new earths, tidied the loom up and fitted some posh waterproof connections to the lamp tails,
all done and working, so now its on to my own series 3 which is full of bad earths and needs some relays wiring for the headlights.

Made a new seat base for my leather sofa as the old webbing was knackered and my **** was near touching the floor, i started out with some planed pallet wood I picked up but that was too lumpy with the 100 mm upholstery foam, the slats were spaced too far apart, so I stuck two layers of steel fencing mesh over the top and its pretty comfy now.
