One of the gates I installed today. Custom length bottom hinge due to the existing post being as ****** as the tower of Pisa.
Back tomorrow to paint the post. There’s a few bits going to the galvanisers like the slam bracket (currently in red oxide), a plate that goes to the right hand side of the post, and a little infill to the top right.

@RobCox made me feel bad as my eagle grinder i put a single phase motor on.
Well that motor is now on the belt linisher so i dug out the star point on the original grinder motor which will allow a vfd which will also mean i can slow start the grinder which is good as it will stop the stone from slipping

Started a bit of a repair to a cast iron gate post.
It had been repaired once before.
4 steel/wrought straps had been fixed to it (now rusted away).
A steel plate with a hole in it had been cut in half then fixed around the bit in the ground. This makes me think the post was still standing at the time.
This plate was bolted to the large flagstone that the post went through. The rusted straps were bolted to this plate.
A pic of the bit in the ground might have been better to describe it.
Found a tube to go up the post. Had to burn away part of the old repair to get it to fit.
The customer wants to keep the rusty bits as it shows a bit of the history of it all.
Welded a base plate to the tube and drilled a couple of holes in the cast,to weld through to the tube.
There were a few gaps to fill between the casting and the base. Used bits of scrap welding it to the base. Then stuck it all together with cast rods.
The base plate will be welded to the plate fixed to the ground

Posts are in a 2.5m square. Roof is a 3m square. Timber is C16 6x2 or 150mm x 50mm
Well I finished my 'milli-Watter' amp, more heat than sound, but has been fun to do.
I had to rewind the mains transformer to get HT and 6.3 for the heaters and wind two output transformers, so kept me busyfor some time.
Made up another slightly larger chassis as well so a bit more TIG welding, found it a lot easier with a square lumps of brass as heatsink behind the aluminium, then a few more amps and move faster!
So will have to think of my next old tech project.

And, for the first time ever, I got to use three springs from the RS instrument spring kit that I got work to buy me in 1990. That was money well spent...

And, I finally restored my garden shovel that was bought by my father.
The attractive rust-brown finish is, rust. It was a lovely shade of grey when I left it to dry last night, after spending a few hours in hydrochloric acid to get rid of the cement, and I hoped, wrongly, that it would be the same colour today. Still, it's had a good coat of linseed and it'll see me out, I'm sure.

You are quite right. I can only use tiredness as my excuse for calling it a shovel.
I like to use the correct terms for things, and the correct spelling
Having been broken for 10 years or more I thought that it would be nice to get it in a usable state again

Not made by me. But my SO designed and had this play house built for our kids, put it up this week. Funny thing is, the guys who built it, one is an economist and the other an engineer with well paying day jobs, they just do this for fun and little extra money.
Still needs to be painted both inside and out.

Started 7 am, moved furniture, took tv down, and tv bracket, also curtains and blind, sugar washed wall, filled some cracks, painted two walls, let it dry, put everything back, 1 pm now.
Surprising what can be done when I put my mind to it.
Daughter will wake up soon, she is nocturnal nowadays, and she won’t even notice it’s been done.
I did the other two walls and the ceiling a few days ago.
Ps. I hate decorating, probably won’t get done again in this decade, but I don’t think it had been done since the place was built 30 years ago.
