Well Friday was not a good day.
I "Incident led be to A&E, but I still managed to finish a few projects. But I still had fun.
I was asked to buy a jewellers hammer to help a friend. It was described as "IN good condition and restored."
I am thinking that that description needs a re write. Yes a old hammer will have a few dings and minor damage.
But "In good condition" means it should be ready to use.
Not have the head fall off when picked up!!!
So a new shaft was located, the head was cleaned and polished. The burrs on both peins had to be ground off and the faces made smooth.
Head was fitted and doubled wedged.
Purely for the fun. One wedge would of been good enough. But I had fun making the wedges with one hand.
Finished, was stain and another polish.
Shame it will be going to a good home. I liked it.
This was brought for me, by wicker one broke and I have grown weary of fixing it.
I used to use it to beat the crud out of the 2 rugs we have by the doors.
Again this was described as; "In excellent condition."
Another re-write will be needed.
This is how it arrived, well one layer of bubble wrap, loos like the "Human" who wrapped it had fun popping and had ran out of tape."
Shame the handle was split and not attached very well.
So, a stock handle was pulled out of a cupboard and hand shaped, hand finished and stained a nice dark shade.
Finished, been used.
Nice bit of old fashioned kit.

Part 2.
This vice was ordered, to go with the jewellers hammer.
I knew this little vice needed a bit of work. But I didn't expect it to be seized.
But a bit of work I had it working.
Striped down and polished.
This was done by placing the parts in coffee tin, fine sand and 1/2 a tin of Brasso. Shaken and rolled in a van for 60 miles.
The threaded parts were cleaned on a wire wheel.
Saddly the first paint had a reaction, so the 3 layers had to be striped.
This is a mix of caustic soda, flour and hot water was used to strip the paint. It worked very well.
Finsihed.
She wanted pink. I painted it pink.
She likes it.
After the lock down I need to help make some garden benches. So, so I can set the designed, scale and lay out I make a scale mock up.
This is wood destined to be on a fire, but I can reuse it for my mock up.
Rip it down to width and length.
Trim and cut the angles.
Assemble, one handed and fill the holes. This was sawdust, pva glue and a bit of bleach.
Finished and already in use by some of the garden residents.

I had to fit a chrome tee handle boot lock on Thursday to an open top car and the lock had been on the passenger seat out in the sun in a clear plastic bag as a greenhouse, I had to used pliers as it was too hot to handle then cool it with compressed air!
