Well, didn't make it, just fixed it. 2.5mm helicoils:



I know, for the purists out there an absolute outrage. But you try buying 6x48 helicoils. Anywhere!

Due to the infection the neck issues and the medication not working, sleep last night was not available.
The TV was rubbish, so I hid myself away in the workshop, there is a song similar to that.

So no power tools.
I made myself a cutting table to allow me to cut out the gaskets for a project in the near future.

All made from scrap wood, 4 nails, pva glue, wood stain and lots of wax.



Old slats lined up on their edges and clamped into half frame. This way you will get one square edge to work from. The PVA is quick drying as well.



Trying for size the cutting block into the frame. The wood fro the frame was from an old bed ripped down ages ago.

The insert needed a few pass with a plane before it would drop in.



Dropped in, planed flat and glued into place. The insert was glued in and the surplus glue was soaked up with saw dust. This makes a decent wood filler.



Stained, waxed and finished.

Lesson learned.

Be a bit for fussy on picking the wood for the inserts, trim the knots outs.
Mitre cutters take a bit of force.
Sanding and planning by hand are hard work.

Do it again?

Yes I would.

Plastered the reveals and they never board out straight far to much effort to fill and sand.

Adapted some better casters onto an old hospital bed. Tomorrow I’ll modify the frame a bit an add a 19mm ply top and have a nice adjustable height mobile work bench.

That's would be great IMHO to put a good thick steel sheet on it

Some radii on lips to fix the threepoint hitch from my tractor to a twee meter long 80x80 box profile.
I need to pull up some poles out of the ground, nice opportunity to use my new mill and rotary table.
By the way I noticed the T-slots in the Vertex rotary table are not sqare to the ones in the mill table, when on -0- degree, they seem 4 degrees or so of? Do I need change the position of the small brass plate?

The car has lived in the garage for the last three months. Poor thing is starting to think this is permanent. After the first 'in a bit, out a bit' I dropped a huge lump of wood behind the rear wheels for future reference.

Set about making a smaller cleaner one less likely to trip over.

How do feel Beta tools?
I love them essentially because it's one the few Italians companies which still owner of itself .
But also because I growth up using their tools , I expecially do like the grip series screwdrivers and theyr ratchet wrench and sockets and I personally own a complete combination spanners set .
I've noticed that theyr wrenches have very small tolerance ...
When I work on good stuff I use them but on Chinese or bad quality bolts or nuts they refuse to fit and I have to switch to the Lidl wrenches which are not as accurate with dimensions

How do feel Beta tools?
I love them essentially because it's one the few Italians companies which still owner of itself .
But also because I growth up using their tools , I expecially do like the grip series screwdrivers and theyr ratchet wrench and sockets and I personally own a complete combination spanners set .

Beta are very good tools on par with most of the best manufacturers.
They make a few lemons, like their hex keys, but by and large most of their stuff is well made and well priced. I don't like their ratchets but I do like their sockets and combi spanners. They also make very good hub pullers.
Oh, and the flat chisels are awesome!
I don't have affinity to any one brand, I prefer to buy the one I like at the time for a good price.

Hex keys ... Uhm... I could advise the PBSwiss ones but are something around 80 euros for a complete set (1.5-10mm set)
About ratchets there are different models and I don't like the cheapo ones
Also pilers are almost useless for me ,I do like the seeger snap rings pilers but all other types of pilers I'd go with Knipex .
Also electrician scissors I do prefer other manufacturers .
I'd like to try their DMM and T slide hex keys

Cheapo Draper keys for years were as good as anything else on the market... I bought 10 packs at a time for a while so I tried a few different brands. Wera, Beta and Teng were all terrible, they lasted 5 minutes.
The only reason I switched from Draper is their new plastic holders aren't practical.

I actually have a set of those Beta electricians scissors and I love them

I’ve got some of the Wera colour coded handle sets and think they are okay.

you can’t beat Unbrako but you just can’t find a set of them anywhere

Something like driver bits I refuse to pay more than 10 euros for a set because I've had experience with expensive one which don't last as long as cheap Lidl ones
Sometimes it's not the brand that matters
Of course when you buy a tool or an accessory for a tool that is intended to be used and abused you can't go with cheap stuff .
And with that being said I tend to give my money to a domestic brand , but sometimes I really can't because if I buy something expensive I pretend it to last
I've worked in ironmongery for a while two years ago and I am in good rapport with the owner so he gives me Beta stuff for almost free ,an example the snap rings pilers ... I've got them for free ,the combination spanners I've paid them only 100 Euros finished price instead of 180+Vat (IVA in Italy which is 22%)
And a lot of small other things like 3M scotch 33 a tape for free every time I buy something from them ,locktite for half the price etc ...
About the scissors , which model do you have?
I'd like to try the bigger ones which have the blade similar to a step drill and progressive handles to reduce the effort of power required to cut something .
I currently use the USAG 207D (another Italian company but it has been bought by facom and later by Stanley Black and Decker)
Those are similar in design to the intercable F1 (another Italian company specialized in electrician tools )
Most of the electricians here use the F1 and claim them to be the best of the best but they say also that they replace them every month ,my scissors are 5 years old and despite some scratches are still as good as the first day

We have a lot of bigger and older Umbrako hex keys at work, if i could get regular 1.5-10mm sets of them then I would. Also struggle to get imperial sets full stop!
