That assembly looks like it'll do the job, but that leadscrew looks far too course for a cross slide.

I agree, it was the only thing I could get that was close to acme. It's from a 3D printer!

More tig welding, I did start just joining scrap together but I figured I may as well pra tise on something useful, some are terrible and will be ground out and rewelded tomorrow some are OK I think, all seem strong enough though, the 5mm plate was bending well before any weld was breaking.

Things I've learnt when comparing tig to mig.

1. Tig is so much quite and less spatter and sparks.

2. With tig it's easy to get over confident, I'd lay a bead or two down decently then get to confident and start the next one without getting properly ready and end up snagging on something or not being able to move enough to complete the bead.

3. Initially I thought tig was a good bit slower but I think on a lot of the things I make there will be considerably less clean up with tig so maybe even up.

4. If your fit up isn't bang on the mig is miles ahead, we'll it is at the moment don't know if tig will catch up when I improve.

Photos aren't the best but happy to here any constructive criticism.

It is rh so I have attached it to the base plate and it pushes the top plate in the correct way.

How are the vertical legs held in the tee slots?

There is a 45 degree ledge on the left leg and a cross piece in the centre section of the right leg.

It’s for feeding the cat. The red thing is a programmable relay that can be set to work on a schedule or on command over wifi.


Edit; you could even do it by voice command if you use one of those things. ‘Alexa, feed the moggy’
