Thanks for posting this . I think I have seen your build before but its reminded me to get one done. I was going to use plastic guttering but thats seems so much better!

Today I made an absolutely astonishing amount of Cedar of Lebanon sawdust - this big bin was empty when I started:
I'm still coming to terms with quite how much sawdust the new thicknesser produces (although some of that sawdust is from the table saw). It all came as a result of ripping a 200 mm × 50 mm × 2 m bit of cedar into six 12 mm × 200 mm × 1 m planks. The ripping was done from both sides on the table saw and then the remaining 50 mm in the middle with a handsaw. The thicknesser was then used to tidy the planks up.
The vacuum cleaner seems to be struggling to clear the thicknesser fast enough. My plan is currently to add a cyclone thing to the vacuum cleaner, but I'm a bit concerned that it might not be man enough for the thicknesser. I might be better off just leaving the thing open and sweeping up regularly.
Anyway, I also made a bit of progress on my cyclone box (helped by the cyclone arriving today). I haven't managed to figure out a space where I can put one of the traditional plastic or metal buckets that these things are usually put on top and I had a load of MDF left from a recent bathroom project, so I made a box:
I'd intended there to be a little bit more clearance under the bench, but it could be worse. If it annoys me too much I can always cut the rebate a bit deeper with a router or something (it was done with a table saw to get the current rebate, but I can't do that again on the box now it's been assembled.
The window you can see on the front is a scrap of clear acrylic I had lying around - it's been epoxied into the inside of the box and the edges (along with all the joints in the box) have been sealed with decorator's caulk.
Inside has been painted with undercoat in the hope that it helps seal the MDF in case that's a problem
The plan is to have a strip of draught insulation around the rebate and hold the lid on with some of these clippy things to hold it tight. That'll probably push the height up a bit, so I probably will need to cut the rebate deeper.
The screws you can see in the bottom are attached to a couple of MDF blocks that fit fairly tightly into the top of the vacuum cleaner:
Now I just need to get hold of some appropriate pipe to join the vacuum cleaner to the cyclone and the cyclone to the tools. Getting the sizes right for everything seems to be a bit of a minefield. I wish I had a 3D Printer so I could experiment with different size adaptors!
The amount of sawdust I produced today would probably have filled that box twice, but I'm relying on that being an unusual amount of sawdust for me to produce and with the window (assuming you can see through it when the lid is on and its dark inside) will help me know when to empty the box. I often have problems with the vacuum filling up and not hearing the change of tone over the sound of the table saw.
Back to work tomorrow, so there won't be much progress now until the weekend

I spent some time making a bracket, really exciting stuff, well hey...
More time was spent trying to find suitable material, as we don't really keep any steel stock.
So I dug through the rusty, too good to bin corner.
Pics tell it all.
Second photo, weld on the left pleased me.
The others will do.
Holds a silencer on a diesel burner away from the hull of a boat just visible in this shot.
Made a change to do some welding at work.

cut up a length of 12mm stainless round bar and bent it to some shapes...
2 spring loaded bolts made to hold the lorry ramps (and hopefully stop bending and breaking with the slightest load)
spot the one i bent in the wrong place lol.
and 6 side guard pins to replace the one ive lost and the 5 rusty ones...
