That is a good collection of tea strainers

I don't think we've used any of those for tea though. I hardly ever drink tea (coffee person) and my fiance who does has these small ball strainers, either with a spring that open up, or that hangs from a small chain.

Also that cutting board in the background is pine, it was made in the 90s and belonged to my grandmother. So end grain pine cutting boards work and last a long time, don't need to use hardwoods.

Those ball strainers are great for cleaning small parts in the ultrasonic cleaner

Today I made some rough press tooling for my flypress from @pressbrake1 Just to prove a point really and I’ll make it a bit more permanent.

I bent up 70 of those 2mm 316 strips into a 90 in under 10 minutes which is a big improvement.

Made an enclosure to put the electrics in for the Centec, even did some welding then sprayed it black. Hopefully get motor / motor controls all wired up tomorrow. Then I want to fit an E-stop switch under the knee.

The ratchets were U/S which is why it was scrapped. Funny thing is (well to me anyway) is that everyone comments on a waste of an expensive spanner.

The ‘washer’ behind it is a swash plate out of a Sikorsky S76. List price over a grand. As I was told when I was taking handfuls out of the Time-Ex bin in the stores where I got the spanner from

Mate was/is an aircraft mechanic (now retired) and I used to do non air mech jobs about the place. It was a handy little number to be honest. They weren’t a good customer as such but I always had the run of the scrap when I was there.

Still working my way through lots of the bits.

May have over tempered them but they work. From some old silver steel. Aldi die, horrible rough threads, I should have screw cut it.

For years I used to spend an age dividing gaps for equi spaced bars in balustrades ,railings etc,took a while to work out how to get it right,and some of my staff struggled.
I thought I’d have to make something,then found this on eBay,for curtain making!
I now have 3 of varying lengths,just the design I envisaged making,for peanuts.
Here I’m using it on a balustrade,you can see the start and finish,are 8mm beyond the span points to compensate for 16mm square,that represents the spindle size.

I know I have very little activity on here but I do some welding from time to time.

My Haynes is in a garage tomorrow (Sat) to have a proper laser tracking job done, the last time it was check something like 11 years ago. So a few days ago I thought I would try to free off the track-rod locking nuts etc and make things moved to help the job along. Well it was not that easy and it did mean settings were lost in the process. So I made a simple tracking jig to get it close so I could drive it OK to the garage.

I calibrated the rig first using a plate of 3mm steel and a few bits of wood and then put on the front wheels of the car and made adjustments, end results look to be 0.5 degree toe in which is good enough to get me there OK and then I will check it all when the job is done to calibrate the rig that bit better. Then it will probably sit on the shelves for the next few years.



Bungee straps do for now.

Made a bracket to hold a concaved mirror for my uncles drive because a kid tied a rope to it and his bike the cycled away ripping it down.. if he does it again i will post the CCTV

Part one done and all wired in. Just need to make brackets to hold the E/Stop button and light. Then look at fitting the DRO

Just to keep me busy we have been decorating for the neighbour, cured some dame issues and replaced a rotten floor joist as we went, hopefully back to my shed build and some more metal next week, i might need a day to recover after the leg of my trestle went through a rotted floor bored twice and i ended up on the floor swearing and laughing.

Sort of reminds me a of a tale my dad used to tell . . . local church was getting local scrote kids chucking stones through the stained glass windows in early to mid 70's . . . My dad told him about makrolon . . . workmen got busy . . . kid chucks half-charlie at newly "repaired" window . . . it bounced back, and copped him on the head . . . cue mother having a go at vicar for damaging her kid as he was only having a bit of fun . . .
