Did you **** the wife off?
Nah, I'm mostly a desk jockey in my day job, hence having time to post on hereImpressive set up for a side job ! , Is it similar to your day job and just making a switch over to working for yourself?
Nice , Agreed with you on that point something satisfying about going from a bit of steel to something useful or broken equipment to working. Good work satisfaction for me anyway. Maybe might want a cushier desk job when I get older but for now plenty happy as a mechy fitter as well.Nah, I'm mostly a desk jockey in my day job, hence having time to post on here
I served my time as a mech fitter and never really got away from it, I like working with my hands too much. And I'm sick of putting days in at work and coming home feeling like I've achieved nothing.
Hello Damian, Long time no see,Here are photographs of my 15Kg wire carrier, It came supplied by the welding set manufacturer ( Butters/Fimer) and attaches to the rear of the welder with 4 X 5mm bolts, Quite a light carrier but amply strong enough, I still have a 12.5 Kg reel of dual shield that you can pick up next time you are in my area, (Nipon steel 1.2mm AWS A5 20 E 71T 9M-J)Today I made a contraption to see if I can get 15kg rolls to work on my mig.
The idea came from @gordon stephenson who has something similar on his mig. (I think)
I've an Rtech MTS250 and it takes 5kg rolls of wire.
It's a 250 amp mig and can burn a 5kg roll in short order.
Also I wanted to try dual shield mig and I have a few part rolls which are also 15kgs.
This is just proof of concept, because if the feed mechanism isn’t up to it, it's not worth pursuing.
Started with couple of bits of 40mm angle and flat bar.

Turned down a 10mm bolt and an old skateboard wheel to preform axle duties.

Then fitted to the top of the welder with neoprene packers.

An off cut of torch liner, some 5mm bar, more neoprene for back tension, a couple of vice grips and a few cable ties complete the "thing"

It seems to feed wire ok, I will see if it welds tomorrow before I waste any more time on it.
A ghetto biltong box. Fancied some biltong for a while and in tesco found a great lump of rump steak in the reduced counter. So old pc fan, 12v power supply, cardboard box, and some aluminium tape later I have this beauty in the kitchen.

House is a nice steady 18-22 degrees so no need for additional heating, heating would speed up the process but you risk drying it too quickly, you can get a much more even drying and have a wider window to catch when it is getting too dry. If this was to be left in a colder area I would have made it from wood and put a light bulb on a temperature controller in with it. I may well build a more permanent box with a similar set up, thinking something along the lines of an old countertop wine fridge with fan, heating and cooling on a microcontroller to get more control over the drying conditions. Can branch out into salami and other dried meats then.Did you have a heat source as well or did you just use the fan to dry it out?

Whoops, that wasnt the evening dinner was it?!
It is the MTS255S which is a different from their standard Migs being that it is Mig Tig Stick, hence the initials. Is that a 250 or a 180? neighbours got the R Tech 250 and a 15Kg spool fits inside, he upgraded frrom from the 180 and that only accepted 5Kg spools inside.

I get so jelous of the space people seem to have away from the south east, I cant even rent a garage for less than £300 per month round here.... And I need a wood bothering workshop so needs to be dry and have decent power.... I am hoping one will come up soon where I have my storage unit ( I would use the storage unit but Planning permision was only granted for storage and the council check regualarlyWhat is rent like your neck of the woods, that units atleast couple grand a month this way
