Attempted to harden a bit of usacut55, bottle was almost out so wasnt hot enough.
Slot cut for spanner. Looser fit than I would like but wont matter once welded.

But seriously, yes that is the colour when welding aluminium. It is probably why I much prefer a blue/grey tint lens to a green tint one or better yet the clear of the Crystal.

Is it? I have yet to use a true colour mask but Im quite sure my arcs on alu have been blue, argon plasma is blue...?

I'm surprised too, I thought the colour of the arc came from the gas, cool blue from argon but if you were to get a tank of neon you'd get a red arc. Maybe some aluminum gets vaporised and ionised?

It is probably a bit more blue than that pic suggests but then again I never see what is reflected as I am always looking through the lens

If you dip your tungsten while welding magnesium the arc goes really green

The demo shop is still not open.
I found 2 old taps in one of my brass boxes they are chrome plated so not good.
Also need the final coats of urethane, rubbered black paint for the inside and a bucket to hold the ice.

The project was a fail but I won myself, I had fun that' matters to me in these times.

It does!

A test on the hardened usacut55. It is hard just not what a higher carbon steel would be. Turns a little different, lost some of the free cutting it will need higher feeds go break chips. I didnt think it was hardened so did not temper it! Stopped to do that.

Some en3b for a deburr handle - it is not drilled or fitted yet just sitting ontop! Hate the plastic one. Might bore out the end for the spare blades.
Knurls are not good I have found a problem with my rdg tool, the top knurl has far too much play on the pin and between the arms.

Right side of the Usacut55 I noticed a spiral pattern that I think appeared after heating, only the cold end where covered with fibreglass. Its not on any of the other bars and can be felt raised. Strange!
Going to buy some more.

It's possibly ozone which comes from the disassociation of AlO3 into diatomic oxygen and ozone.
