Had a clear out yesterday and found some bits I had been saving (squirrelled away and then forgotten about). Instead of just scrapping it I decided to knock up a super quick patio heater/log burner thing. Only 3 ingredients necessary. 1x brake rotor, 1x 5 inch exhaust pipe, 1x empty gas bottle. Burns nicely given how short the "flue" is, might add the cut out back in as a door if I find a hinge kicking about.

I got a handful of batteries from a hospital, they're "Standby" batteries and not made to be discharged more than a couple of times a year. I actually had similar plans for them but after five years on a trickle charger they're pretty crap, and now they're my problem to dispose of.

Weigh them in at the scrappies perhaps ????

Is that condensation on the inside glass ..if so there might be microscopic condensation eventually getting into the hive unit unless you truly seal it up including any drilled screw holes ..

It was a common problem with glass break detectors and any other micro electrics within a moist atmosphere after a while .. One early morning minus 18 oC outide I got called out to a secure office area that was very humid & warm inside , the sensors adjacent to & break glass stuff on the windows & frames had shorted inside on the circuit boards due to localized condensation . Same with a site that was a private swimming pool where it was always hot & humid

Good call you reminded me I've had a can of spray on PCB varnish for about 20 years. It's lost its pressure but enough left to dribble it over the PCB . Masked off the LEDs, switch and battery contacts.

I've slapped some petroleum jelly on the battery contacts. Still works so that's a bonus

Easily fixed. Most aerosol/spray cans use liquid butane as the propellant, which happens to be the same as lighter refils. Use it the same way as you'd refil a butane lighter. Some refil cans have a load of adaptors in the lid to fit many different valves. The rubbery one is ideal for aerosols.

I used to use a soft sticky tape to wrap a round the outer seam of the unit's case and used trimmed up with a scalpel super strong double sided sticky tape on the underside to stick it in place so I didn't' puncture the base or leave any moisture access route when the air pressure changed .

Sometimes with the customers consent I'd use a single screw in the middle of a 5 mm thick Perspex sheet strip to make a greasy , tobacco sticky , wet wall or wooden frame super flat and able to take the sticky tape backing. I learnt this trick after I was continually being sent back to where several supposedly engineers hadn't used a proper surface degrease prep regime or it was too porous /damp for the tape to hold the unit after a few days/ week/months

When siting hard wired units I usually worked back from such a sealed up unit that was now fixed in place .... back to the control Panel to keep the integrity of the sensor intact . This wire free stuff has removed the need for much of this .

If you need to take a sticky taped stuck unit off , use length of strong button thread looped on to two pencils etc to gently pull saw through the middle of the tape or between the tape & the unit if it is like a super thin double sided sellotape.

Milled the end of a bit of 45mm x 25mm Aluminium so that it would fit inside a bit of 40mm x 40mm box, also bored a 16mm hole in it then welded it to the box.

I then milled a bit of 50mm x 50mm aluminium down to 33.8mm square and then milled a 19mm dia bit on the top.

This was so that I could slip a bit of 25mm x 25mm box over the top and weld it.

It now acts as a handle for the bead breaker section of the tyre changer.

And also fits inside the bit that will become the tyre remover arm.

I have a push knurler that came with the set. This was a quick test, but I did not like the amount of pressure needed on the cross slide screw.
Im not sure it will do what I want - a peice of alu 100mm dia, and wont fit in the clamp knurler. Smooth aluminium is no good for fine feeding on the lathe handwheels so I am planning to make a knurled one.

If you put a live centre on the end of the 100 mm alu surely it won't matter where the knurler touches to make the imprint so long as the diameter allows pattern to pattern matching impressions.

I used this guys method to get a quality knurl on a turned to size diameter.

Today I skimmed another couple of sets of hauler plates, one set from Spencer Carter and the other Seawinch. The Spencer Carter ones are a much nicer cast iron to turn, whether they are better at their job or not I am not sure.

Also turned a bit of Aluminium down to 35mm and 28mm.

Parted it off and welded to a box I made up from some angle, it is so I can fit the duckhead to it for the tyre changer.

A little stand knocked up,
This is to take the tube bender.
Will work in horizontal and vertical positions.

Next is also make some clamps to mount the ram. Which I have started to make this evening.

Very occasionally I do on a restorative job,or if an architect insists,hazardous on deep holes though,still got the scar on my neck from a blow back.

Cut a small recess in compound using die grinder and a stone, fit thrust bearing. Good improvement, no play and smooth.
