Stuff you won’t sell or bin

I suppose its time to sell a lot of things, as I seem to have acquired duplicate, triplicates, and even more of the same type of items. What I won't sell, and keep to the end of my days are my Dad's personal tools. As for binning things, I tend to keep useful building materials which "might" be needed for future projects that don't currently exist.

I’m about to sign up for a small storage unit as I have some stuff just like this … I’m not willing to part with. But as to the OP question - my 9” angle grinder. Bought it for one job which it’s done and now it sits under the bench. Scares the life out of me but I won’t part with it in case another one only job comes up …

I'm nearly 60 so I'll work on about another 15 years of usefulness*. I'm slowly moving from a large 5 bed house with outbuildings to a 3 bed with one shed. There will be another shed soonish, that'll mostly be to keep the weather off things.

And to go with döstädning there's 'It'll see me out' and 'If I'm spared'. Wills, advanced directives, powers of attorney etc are all in place and have been for a good whiley. You'd think I was looking forward to it.

Youll need to write a death book, so those around you at the end have all the info make things easy….its a good thing to be prepared, saves loads of heart ache for the family in a time of grief. You can also include the true value of the items so the unknowing dont get ripped off.

bought some tools of a guy last year , rented a unit to do "his" stuff , after a year he realised with rent ,rates etc it was a money pit and his wages did nt cover it so sold it all including two half built motor bikes , shame , genuine decent guy.

Yeah, looking at my place, so much I would like to keep, but I simply can't transport it all to Spain. There's going to have to be a huge garage sale here in the not too distant future, much as it will pain me. Just has to be massively thinned out

I cannot believe this forum. Uncanny the way things coincide .Just spent the day with grandson moving my "alternative parts dept " from the bottom of the garden to the front ready for the arrival of the skip. the state of shock is just beginning to take hold. All I've got to do is resist the urge to have another rummage just to make sure nothing is recoverable .

Thought I'd add this in addition to my previous post (#21). Here's an item I won't ever sell or bin as its lasted over 50 years and is still in good condition.
Its the leather welding Cape & Bib I bought when I was a teenager, also shown in my avatar. I wasn't a professional welder, but learned when I was young and started out by making up ornamental window guards with my Dad for our house. Photos date to around 1972.

Stuff I wont sell or bin? anything tool related. Sooner or later it will come in useful and isn't eating anything.

Currently being a bit of a pain is a huge cast bandsaw that I picked up to use the frame for a english wheel build that appeared in the small ad's so cheap I couldn't refuse. We had to strip the wheels etc off it just to fit it in my Master pickup. Even stripped down its a hefty lump to keep moving round while I'm getting round-tuit. I think I'll put it on casters as the next step just to make it more wheel out the way-able...

Have you ever given serious thought to just buying a 40ft container and having it shipped. Instant storage on arrival too while your getting sorted.
If I have to move again, it might involve two of these...

What's wrong with the trailer that it needs to go in a skip?

And I'll bet that pressure washer is easily repaired. What's wrong with it? £20 tops will get it posted anywhere in the UK

This reminds me of when I was a kid, and one of the jobs my Dad gave me was to pull the hundreds of nails nails from a load of 2"x 4" studs he salvaged from a demolition job. After they were stacked and clamped, they sat for years until the day the tarp was removed only to find they had all rotted.

I have indeed, but no room for a container here, couldn't even get the lorry in with a 20 footer. We barely managed the truck for a 12 yard skip.

The older I get the more I want to shift stuff on. Death clearance is a Scandinavian term for it. My children aren't likely to want any of it and I'd rather shift it on when convenient rather than when obligatotory.

a garage full of gear is a liability when you get older and it has to be shifted before you pop your cloggs unfortunately

From memory I suspect very little but to be honest I just couldn't be bothered . Touch of the black dog at the time so I just bought another one ,which 5 years later is also playing up. After a life time of fixing things the novelty has finally worn off slightly.

I will be 71 come December and won’t be popping off anytime soon Dad was 86 when he was taken due to a birth defect Moms is 93. I keep on telling my Son “ One day all this ****e will be yours “ now he is a machinist
( living in a trailer ) compared to my bungalow & garage and has his old room set up for a music studio so when I do shake hands with the Reaper he is my beneficiary that will cover the cost of utilities at the very least the cost of renting a place for a studio would probably cost more by then.
