I know what you mean. I do quite a lot of programming (in C, python & assembly language among others), use Vim as my text editor of choice and am quite comfortable working at the Linux command prompt. I still find git (upon which github is built) an unintuitive program and do all my version control with Mercurial instead.
Having said that, if all you want to do with it is download FreeCAD, then go here: https://github.com/realthunder/FreeCAD_assembly3/releases, scroll down until you see a list of filenames, download the version for your platform (if Windows then probably FreeCAD-asm3-Stable-Win64-Py3-Qt5-20220111.7z at a guess). You'll need 7zip to open it (but that's worth having anyway) and I haven't downloaded it recently, so I don't know what you have to do from there!
Its just batch file that you run no install needed just unzipping
